Yankees Minor League Report 6/30/14: Pete O'Brien, Miguel Andujar, and Gosuke Katoh Each Collect Two Hits on Slow Night

In the GCL today, the top squad (GCL-1) was postponed.   The GCL-2 squad was lead by SS Angel Aguilar, who connected on a 3-run HR in today's victory.  It was his third HR in 36 AB this season after hitting three in 229 AB in the DSL last year....Mike Noteware, a non-drafted FA out of Lewis-Clark St. College (Seriously, where do scouts find these guys?) earned his first professional victory by throwing two shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out three....
---------------------------------------------------------
Scranton (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 9-7)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-4, BB, K, CS (2)
6-game hitting streak.  15-for-29 in last ten games with 11 walks.    His stolen base rate has not been good at all this year, though:  He is 7-for-14 between Trenton/Scranton.
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-3, RS, BB, K
First walk of the season at this level for Murphy.  (Two in 24 games for the Yankees)
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
IF Scott Sizemore:  2-for-3, 2 3B (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB
OF Taylor Dugas:  2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RBI, RS
He has been able to keep his SLG above .400 for most of the season, which is quite the surprise.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-5, RBI
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  2-for-4, 2B (20), HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, K, HBP
27-year old has yet to make a major league appearance, so I am rooting for him in that regard - but despite his strong offensive season, I wouldn't expect him to do much if he ever was given a callup.

RHP Bruce Billings (L, 4-5);  6 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
RHP Danny Burawa:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR
3.90 ERA; 30 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 2 HR, 17 BB, 39 K
His dominating start is way back in the rear view mirror.   Has allowed 11 runs in 14.2 IP over his last 11 appearances.
RHP Matt Daley:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
2.86 ERA; 22 IP, 26 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 33 K
---------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Portland, 2-0)

C/1B Pete O'Brien:  2-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K
Nice to see a few hits on his ledger, as he has really been struggling lately.
C Gary Sanchez:  0-for-4, K
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-3, RS, BB, SB (17)
One of those players who can be exciting to watch when he is hitting - but will he ever hit enough in the majors to be a true difference maker?
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-2, BB
The baby steps continue.  The question becomes:  Are they going to lead anywhere?
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-3
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-4, 2 K
.276/.319/.365 in 337 AB

28.2 IP, 31 H, 15 R, 15 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 41 K since promotion.  Allowing some runs, but also keeping up the big strikeout rates.
-----------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 4-2)
3B Miguel Andujar:  2-for-3, RS, SAC, E (20)
11-for-32 in last ten games.  Average has risen to .228.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  2-for-4, RBI
14-for-39 since All-Star Game.  It looked like Katoh was a candidate to get sent down to Staten Island at one point, but he has definitely turned it on lately.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-5, RBI, 3 K
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-5, 2 K
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-4, 2B (7), RS, K
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-4, 2B (12), K

Yankees Minor League Report 6/28/14: Robert Refsnyder Homers Again; Jacob Lindgren & Austin DeCarr Debut; CC Sabathia's Rehab Clock Starts Ticking

In the GCL today, second-round pick Jacob Lindgren made his professional debut, tossing a scoreless inning while allowing a pair of hits.  He struck out two.  Before people start getting up in arms about the fact that a fast-track college reliever is spending time in the GCL, relax.  He was promoted to Charleston after the game and could move quickly from there....Austin DeCarr, drafted in the third round out of high school, also made his debut, tossing a scoreless inning, allowing one hit with a walk and a strikeout....SS Jorge Mateo showed no mercy towards his fellow Yankees' prospects on the GCL2 squad, collecting a pair of hits while stealing three more bases, giving him nine (!!) in eight games.   Mateo is a true 80-speed guy on the 20-80 scouting scale, and just has to be a lot of fun to watch....
------------------
Scranton (Defeated Lehigh Valley, 4-3)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-2, HR (3), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB, K
Up to .356 (21-for-59) with eight XBH and 13 walks.  Second straight game with HR.    He is now 15-for-28 with ten walks in last ten games.  Need me to say more?   OK, his nine total HR are a career high (hit six last year)
UTIL Jose Pirela:  2-for-4, BB
Was struggling a little bit recently, but is still 38-for-110 in June.
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-5, RS, K
As much as he is loved (myself included), he is hitting only .228 here (13-for-57) this season without a walk.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-5, 2B (10), RS, 3 K
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-2, RS, 2 BB
If only he could play a position - even though I don't see him as a big prospect, he is hitting a ton this season.  But there is no room for him in the big leagues to even see if you can catch lightning in a bottle.
IF Scott Sizemore:  1-for-5, 2B (12), 2 RBI, 2 K
OF Taylor Dugas:  1-for-4
Has been playing a lot of CF since his promotion (which again is likely more related to the fact that Scranton doesn't have a true CF than anything else)

RHP Chris Leroux (W, 1-2):  5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Switch Pat Venditte:  2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Free Pat Venditte!  Free Pat Venditte!  PLEAAASSEEEEE Free Pat Venditte!
RHP Danny Burawa:  0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
3.54 ERA; 28 IP, 25 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 37 K
RHP Matt Daley (S, 7):  1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
32 K in 21 IP.
----------------------
Trenton (Lost to Erie, 3-1)

1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin: 1-for-3, HR (3), RBI, K
Slight signs of life (hits in six of his last seven games, including three doubles and a homer), but is still not quite on a roll.
C Gary Sanchez:  0-for-4, K
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, 2 K
Down to .218 in Trenton with 47 strikeouts in 46 games.   He has pretty much become home run or nothing at the moment, with a lot of nothing.
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-4
6-for-36 in last ten games
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-3, BB, K

LHP Matt Tracy:  5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
3.49 ERA; 77.1 IP, 88 H, 33 R, 30 ER, 3 HR, 31 BB, 45 K for Trenton
RHP Nick Goody (L, 0-1):  0.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
2.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K since promotion
LHP Cesar Cabral:  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
--------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Dunedin, 5-2)

OF Aaron Judge:  2-for-3, 2 RS, BB, K
As was the case earlier this year in Charleston, the power is taking a bit of time to come (three XBH, none of which are homers, in 34 AB), but he does have eight walks.
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, 1 K
28 walks in 46 games.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
2B Angelo Gumbs:  2-for-3, 2B (9), RBI, 2 RS
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4, K
OF Yeicok Calderon:  1-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, K
10 doubles in 20 games.  That is quite the pace.
1B Matt Snyder:  2-for-4, 2 RBI
UTIL Jose Rosario:  3-for-4, CS (3)
21-for-64 for the 22-year old since his promotion.   Hitting well this year...but for the first time since 2011.

LHP CC Sabathia:  2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Weight concerns will probably keep him from ever becoming a top flight pitcher, but he may contribute as a swingman some day.
RHP Rafael DePaula (W, 4-5):  5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
4.86 ERA; 66.2 IP, 73 H, 39 R, 36 ER, 4 HR, 30 BB, 82 K
Second consecutive outing not allowing a run over 5.2 innings.   Seems to have bounced back nicely after two horrendous starts.
RHP Cesar Vargas (S, 3):  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
41 IP, 34 H, 15 R, 12 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 43 K between Charleston/Tampa
-----------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 4-3)

SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-5, 2B (11), RBI, RS, K
Hitting streak is up to seven.
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-4
2-for-17 mini slide.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  2-for-4, 2B (10), K
12-for-36 (.333) in last ten games.
3B Miguel Andujar:  0-for-4, 3 K
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-3, BB, SB (1)
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-3, RS, K
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-1, RS, 2 BB
.146 with 54 K in 50 games.  Perhaps the best strategy is to go up to the plate with no intention to swing and hope you can get a walk out of it.

LHP Caleb Smith:  3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
3.36 ERA; 64.1 IP, 52 H, 27 R, 24 ER, 4 HR, 27 BB, 68 K
Second straight start where he was pulled a bit early.  This tells me they are possibly slowing him down.   Threw 51.1 professional innings last year.
LHP Omar Luis:  2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR
6.14 ERA; 29.1 IP, 31 H, 22 R, 20 ER, 23 BB, 21 K, 4 HR
They need to invest in as much young Cuban talent as possible!
RHP Angel Rincon:  2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
4.81 ERA; 24.1 IP, 22 H, 15 R, 13 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 20 K
----------------------------
Staten Island

1B/OF Chris Breen:  2-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K
There is some pop in the 20-year old's bat somewhere...we'll see if he can develop it.
SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, SB (7)
Had a very slow start to his campaign, but has picked it up considerably (13-for-35 after 0-for-14 start)
C Luis Torrens:  1-for-3, 3B (1), 2 RS, BB
First professional triple (64 games)
CF Devyn Bolasky:  3-for-6, 2 2B (2), 2 RS, CS (1)
OF Austin Aune:  1-for-4, 2B (4), 2 RS, BB, 2 K, SB (2)
Hitting pretty well lately, but has a LOT to prove if he wants to jump back on the radar.
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  2-for-5, 2B (5), 2 RBI
22-year old is hitting .313.  I could see him getting to Charleston this year, but Katoh (2B) and Andujar (3B) currently take up his two positions.
C Isaias Tejada:  1-for-1, 2B (5), 4 RBI, 2 SF, BB
9-for-28 on the season.  Not nearly the prospect Torrens is (and that is an understatement),  but at one time, he looked like he had a chance to be the next one in line.
1B Bubba Jones:  1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, BB, K

RHP Andy Beresford:  3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
11.2 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 K
LHP Rony Bautista (W, 1-0):  1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
RHP Manolo Reyes:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Advanced age (24), but little experience (16th professional game).   There supposedly is some talent here, and relievers can come late.  He will obviously need to start making his way up the chain soon, though.
RHP Conor Mullee:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 10 K
There was a time when he supposedly could really light up the radar gun - then he had Tommy John in 2011, missing the entire season.  Last year, he only threw in six games so the intrigue over his arm has worn off a bit.

Yankees Minor League Report 6/27/14: Robert Refsnyder Homers, Shane Greene Tosses Seven Shutout Innings in Scranton Win

In the first grudge match of the year, the GCL 1 Yankees defeated the GCL 2 Yankees, 3-0, this afternoon.  The GCL1 squad is now 7-0 on the season.  (When you look at who plays on each squad, it does appear at first glance that the GCL 1 team has the better prospects)

SS Jorge Mateo went 1-for-3 with a triple, walk, and his 6th stolen base of the season....OF Leonardo Molina went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in....Ty Hensley made his second appearance of the season, going 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts....

1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  0-for-4, RS, K
Snaps 5-game hitting streak
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-3, BB
Supposedly, he was pulled from the game the other night due to something that wasn't injury related.  Feel free to come up with your own theories.
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-3, BB
UTIL Dan Fiorito:  1-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS, BB

LHP Ty Webb:  2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

CF Jake Cave:  0-for-4, BB, K
.309/.365/.400 in 320 AB.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-3, 2 BB, K
One of the walks was intentional in the bottom of the 9th, tied game, two outs, runner on second, and Bird on deck.  I don't care if the pitcher is a left-handed JR Richard - I just don't get it.    .227/.295/.304 in 286 AB
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-4, 2 K
Hitting .277 in 274 AB with 37 walks and 60 strikeouts.

Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 6-5)

3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-2, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB

UTIL John Murphy:  2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, K, 2 SB (14)
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-4, 2B (10), HBP
OF Dustin Fowler:  0-for-5
0-fer nights are never good, but at least whatever caused him to come out of the game the other night wasn't serious.
1B Mike Ford:  2-for-4, RS
OF Michael O'Neill:  1-for-5
.244/.326/.396 in 270 AB with 24 walks and 80 strikeouts

RHP Brady Lail (L, 7-4):  5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
3.75 ERA; 81.2 IP, 91 H, 38 R, 34 ER, 5 HR, 14 BB, 81 K
Obviously, a lot to like about the 20-year old.  His high water mark for innings is 61.2, set last year.
RHP Cale Cashow:  2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Philip Walby:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

First XBH of season (46 AB).   Had 17 in 176 AB last year in GCL
C Luis Torrens:  0-for-4, K
Promoted from GCL (16 AB), but this is likely where he was going to end up all along regardless.  As mentioned previously, the 18-year old played nine games for Charleston earlier this season.  He is next in the catching pipeline, but we shall see what happens.
CF Devyn Bolaksy:  1-for-4, K
1B/OF Chris Breen:  0-for-4, 2 K

Yankees Minor League Report 6/26/14: Ian Clarkin Pitches Masterpiece while Miguel Andujar Drives Home Six in Charleston Win

In the GCL today, RHP Jose Mesa finally made his professional debut.  Drafted in the 24th round in 2012 (and yes, he is the son of former big league closer Jose Mesa), Mesa has suffered through some arm injuries (to say the least, given that he has been a ghost for so long).  Anyway, he is still only 20 years old.  He threw a scoreless inning today.

LHP Nik Turley:  4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 HR
Cruising through four innings; seems to have run into a wall in the fifth.  75 total pitches, 43 for strikes.   First Triple-A start of the season.  Made one rehab start in the GCL before being placed here.  Out most of the season with undisclosed arm injury.
--------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Erie, 10-5)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-3, 2B (15), 2 RS, 2 BB, K
20-for-63 in June.  He is coming on very strongly now.
C/1B Pete O'Brien: 2-for-5, 2B (7), RBI, RS, K
42nd XBH of the season in 287 AB.
3B Rob Segedin: 3-for-4, RBI, RS, SB (1)
Nice to add some hits to his strong walk rate.  He has shown off a tad of speed in the past, but it is not a big part of his game.
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-5, 2B (21), 2 RBI, RS
Keep piling up those doubles!
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-2, SB (16)
Left game early.
UTIL Zach Wilson:  1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
Showed promise in Staten Island all the way back in 2011, but hasn't done much since.

RHP Jairo Heredia:  4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
3.19 ERA; 42.1 IP, 42 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 46 K
LHP Fred Lewis:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
So much for lowering his ERA recently
LHP James Pazos:  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
10.2 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 14 K since promotion.
----------------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Clearwater, 4-3)

CF Jake Cave:  3-for-4, 2 2B (15), RBI, 2 RS
Eight hits in last two games has raised his average to .313.
3B Dante Bichette:  2-for-4, 2 RBI, K, CS (3)
44 RBI in 75 games, which is a pretty good rate.   He has surprisingly remained solid all season.  Remember, he is only 21 years old, and is younger than teammate Aaron Judge.
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-4, K
6-for-28 since promotion
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-4, 2 K
Still 15-for-37 in his last ten games.
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-3, K
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, 2 K
You again?   He needs to show he can stay on the freakin field before any kind of real judgement can be made about his future.
OF Yeicok Calderon:  0-for-3

LHP Conner Kendrick:  4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
4.50 ERA; 42 IP, 52 H, 24 R, 21 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 32 K
------------------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Savannah, 9-0)

3B Miguel Andujar:  2-for-3, HR (6 - Grand Slam), 6 RBI, BB
Three multi-hit games in last four contests as he attempts to show everyone what the fuss was all about.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-5, RS, SB (12)
The small silver lining in the Avelino injury is that it has given Wade considerable time at shortstop in order to develop his own game (Don't get me wrong - Avelino is the bigger prospect, and needs to be on the field ASAP)
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-3, RBI, BB
Trying hard to stay above .200 (.203)
OF Michael O'Neill:  2-for-5, RS, 2 K
11-for-37 in last ten games with six strikeouts.
1B Mike Ford:  2-for-4, RS, BB
C Eduardo de Oleo:  2-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, RS

1B Reymond Nunez:  0-for-3, 3 RS, BB, HBP, K
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-4, RBI

LHP Ian Clarkin (W, 3-3):  6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 7 K
3.08 ERA; 52.2 IP, 48 H, 21 R, 18 ER, 4 HR, 15 BB, 57 K
Five June Starts:   25 IP, 19 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 28 K
Savannah is 48-26 this season (it is no accident, as they are a more experienced team - on average, about a year older than Charleston's squad).    At 19, Clarkin is even younger than the ---average age - the bottom line is that Clarkin is on fire.
RHP Eric Ruth (S, 1):  3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
58.1 IP, 51 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 1 HR, 21 BB, 56 K
--------------------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Hudson Valley, 14-3)

SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-4, RS
10-for-43 without an XBH.
1B/OF Chris Breen:  2-for-4, K
Drafted as a catcher in 2012, he actually spent his first season (25 games) as a catcher in the GCL.  He was converted to a 1B/LF last season.
OF Austin Aune:  1-for-2, RS, K
.217 (10-for-46) on the season.
2B Ty McFarland:  0-for-2
CF Devyn Bolasky:  0-for-2
3B Renzo Martini:  1-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI, RS
Nearly doubled his average to .063!
1B Bo Thompson:  1-for-4
1B Connor Spencer:  0-for-2, K
8th round pick this year only hit one home run in his career at UC Irvine, but has a reputation for being a strong line drive hitter.  I guess he could still develop a little more power as a professional - he better, because even if the power game in MLB is not what it was back in the steroid era, it will be tough to get by as a first baseman without much of a power game.

RHP Matt Borens:  1.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
11th round pick out of Eastern Illinois is another tall Yankees draftee at 6'7" (What, do the Yankees take their draft spreadsheet and sort the pitchers by height?), though his listed weight is a rail-thin 195.   Given that, you would think (hope) there is upside potential for his arm strength to increase.   For now, he is a tall guy who relies on movement and his offspeed stuff to generate outs, which obviously didn't happen often enough tonight.
RHP Jordan Cote:  3.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
The 6'5" 21-year old with a history of injuries can't afford many outings like this.  The Yankees need to see some progress here.  He showed off his talents in 2012 and 2013 when he had a chance to pitch, allowing six earned runs in 55.2 IP in the GCL with a 45/9 K/BB ratio.  But if you can't stay healthy and develop, you aren't going to last long.
RHP Matt Wotherspoon:  1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
First career strikeout in 4.1 innings.
LHP Ethan Carnes:  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
0.93 ERA; 9.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K

Yankees Minor League Report 6/25/14: Luis Severino Tosses Six Hitless Innings While Jake Cave Bangs Out Five Hits in Tampa Win

Down in the GCL, OF Leonardo Molina walked three times, drive in a run, and scored a run.  Molina is a 16-year old (!!!) who signed for $1.4M last season, when he was ranked as the #5 international prospect.    He will turn 17 in July.    He is currently 2-for-17 but with six walks in his first five professional games.   He supposedly is blessed with speed to burn and a very quick bat.  Sounds a bit like Ruben Rivera, doesn't it? Let us hope Molina's career goes a bit better...SS Jorge Mateo, who I will try to keep tabs with all season long, went 1-for-4, with a walk and his fifth stolen base of the season.

If you didn't hear the news, OF Slade Heathcott will miss the remainder of the season due to his knee injury.   The kid has just never caught much of a break.
------------------------------------------------------
Trenton (Lost to Bowie, 7-3)

C Gary Sanchez:  3-for-4, 2B (14), RBI
Maybe it is true, and he needs a kick in the pants from time to time.  Now 13-for-36 since suspension.
OF Ben Gamel:  2-for-4, 2 2B (20), RS, K
20 doubles in 75 games this year; 32 in 112 games last year, so his rate is similar.   To date, he hasn't been able to translate those doubles to home runs, as he only has five the last two years.
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4
1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin:  1-for-3, BB, K
.256/.326/.365 in 211 AB
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-3, HBP
.231/.359/.356 in 208 AB
UTIL Dan Fiorito:  1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, RS

15-for-33 (.455) with seven doubles since the All-Star Game.
OF Aaron Judge:  1-for-3, 3B (2), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB, K

RHP Luis Severino (W, 1-1):  6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
10.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 14 K since promotion; 2.76 ERA with 84/17 K/BB ratio over 78.1 innings overall.   Quickly becoming the best pitching prospect in the system.
LHP Ramon Benjamin: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K
------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Savannah, 4-0)

OF Dustin Fowler:   0-for-1
Left the game early, and there is nothing that points to why within the game log.  Hopefully, it is nothing serious as he has been on quite the roll lately.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-3, K
Scheduled to have the night off, but he replaced Fowler in the lineup.   Hitting .271 in what has to be considered a successful season thus far.
3B Miguel Andujar:  2-for-3
6-for-20 since All-Star Game.  We will take whatever we can get.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  0-for-4, 2 K
1B Mike Ford:   1-for-4
I love the quirkiness of baseball:  Ford has not hit a home run since his historic 4 home run game on 5/25 (he was out with an injury from 6/7 - 6/20)
UTIL John Murphy:  0-for-2, BB
OF Michael O'Neill:  0-for-3, K

Yankees Minor League Report 6/24/14: John Ryan Murphy & Gary Sanchez Homer; Dan Camarena's Trenton Debut

In injury related news, Manny Banuelos has been shut down due to a blister issue.  As much as we keep hoping for him to get some sort of steady rhythm going in the minor leagues, it just doesn't happen.

SS Jorge Mateo continues to impress in the GCL, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored today.  He is off to a 7-for-20 start with two doubles and four stolen bases in four tries.....In the same game, catching prospect Luis Torrens went 3-for-5 with a run batted in.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scranton (Lost to Rochester, 7-5)

C John Ryan Murphy:  2-for-4, 2B (6), HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K
Ho hum.  Murphy doesn't belong here.  End of story.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K
Those who were worried about his walks can relax a little bit.  Now has eight in 14 games since joining Scranton.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, HR (7), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
Second consecutive game with home run and third in last five games.  He has pretty much not stopped hitting since the calendar turned to May.
SS Dean Anna:  1-for-4
First game since 5/29.
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-1, RS, 3 BB, K
Typically walks more than he strikes out, but the rate this year is 27 walks/33 strikeouts.    Regardless, this is what Dugas is all about - getting on base.
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, 3 K
Now has 72 strikeouts in 61 games to go along with the insane power numbers.
C Austin Romine:  0-for-3, BB
4-for-32 in last ten games
IF Scott Sizemore:  1-for-4, K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  0-for-4, K

RHP Bruce Billings (L, 4-4);  6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
LHP Francisco Rondon:  0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
First run allowed in 11.1 innings since promotion.
RHP Preston Claiborne:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
2.76 ERA; 16.1 IP, 17 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 10 BB, 19 K
RHP Robert Coello:  0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
--------------------------------------
Trenton (Lost to Bowie, 6-3.  Our old buddy David Adams is playing on the Bowie squad, and hasn't played all that well - .253/.296/.360 in 150 AB)

C Gary Sanchez:  1-for-4, HR (9), RBI, RS, K
10-for-32 since suspension with a double and two home runs.
1B Rob Segedin:  2-for-4, 2B (8), RS
He has been drawing his walks, but has only 14 XBH in 205 AB.
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-3, 2B (9), RS, BB, K
Third consecutive game with a double.  12-for-37 in last ten games.
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-5, K, CS (6)
He has been running a lot lately, making me wonder if he was told to be a bit more aggressive.  Results haven't been overly impressive though (4-for-9 in last nine attempts).     7-for-41 slide.
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, 3 K
73/13 K/BB ratio in 73 games this season.   When he connects, the ball flies - but I do think he needs a little more plate discipline.
UTIL Ali Castillo:  2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB

LHP Dan Camarena (L, 0-1):  4.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Double-A debut.  Went 4-4 with a 2.72 ERA in 14 starts for Tampa.  For a command guy like Camarena, Double-A provides an especially tough test.  The hitters are tougher and may not be easily as fooled by some of his slop (he is better than a true "slop" pitcher, but you get the drift).  Anyway, one game means nothing.
LHP Ty Webb:  2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
4.62 ERA; 25.1 IP, 28 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 11 BB, 37 K, 1 HR since promotion.
LHP Fred Lewis:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Slowly bringing his unsightly ERA down.  4.1 scoreless innings in last three appearances.
----------------------------------

13-for-35 in last 11 games with seven doubles, nine walks, and nine strikeouts.
3B Dante Bichette:  0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
One overlooked number for Bichette is his walk total:  He has now walked 36 times in 73 games after walking 43 times in 114 games during his forgettable 2013 season.
OF Aaron Judge:  1-for-4, 2 K
5-for-21 with four walks and five strikeouts

Charleston  (Split DH with Savannah, winning 6-1 before losing 2-0.  In Game 2, they ran into Dario Alvarez, who is an older pitcher (25) with an insane strikeout rate - 60 in 37.1 IP entering tonight.  Well, in tonight's game, he added ten strikeouts in 4.1 innings to his total)

OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-7, HR (5), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K

3.56 ERA; 60.2 IP, 51 H, 27 R, 24 ER, 4 HR, 27 BB, 63 K
Pulled after 37 pitches.   We'll see if it was an injury-related thing or a workload related thing.
LHP Omar Luis: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
5.60 ERA; 27.1 IP, 27 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 20 BB, 19 K
One of his more encouraging outings of the season, which should be obvious given that stat line.

Pitched to a 4.53 ERA in 47.2 IP for Tampa before demotion.

2B Ty McFarland:  2-for-4, 2B (4), 2 RBI, RS
12-for-37 to begin his professional career.  10th round pick out of James Madison could move relatively quickly, but the upside is limited.  Can also play third.

Third consecutive multi-hit game has raised his average to .225.
1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-4, RS
12-for-34
CF Devyn Bolasky:  2-for-3, RBI, RS, BB
6-for-20.  As stated previously, Bolasky is a slasher type with good speed and strong defensive ability, but power will not be a part of his game.
3B Renzo Martini:  0-for-4, K
Renzo may need a martini, given his .034 start.
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-3, BB, K

RHP David Palladino (W, 1-1):  6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K
Power is the name of the game for the 6'8" beast.   Tonight, he showed off some control after walking eight in his first 7.1 innings.  Now has 15 strikeouts in 13.1 innings to go along with the ten walks.
LHP Rony Bautista (S, 1):  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Scranton (Defeated Pawtucket,5-4)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-3, HR (1),RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
14-for-44 with five extra-base hits, six walks, and nine strikeouts since promotion.   Overall, he is at .338/.390/.540 in 272 AB.  This has been an incredible season, and we are witnessing a player that is attempting to make the Yankees brass think hard and long about when exactly to promote him.

.225/.298/.358 in 151 AB.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-4, RBI
.272/.315/.461 in 206 AB.  Given the lack of a true center fielder at this level right now, it appears they are rotating players.   Today was Almonte's turn.   By the way, he is still having trouble vs. LHP (8-for-56 with one extra base hit)
UTIL Jose Pirela:  0-for-3, RS, BB, SB (10)
Just as I suspected, the Yankees have seemingly decided to give Pirela some reps at first base after they released Canzler.    Now hitting .319/.358/.447 with 10 steals in 14 attempts.

Yankees Minor League Report 6/21/14: Nik Turley & Ty Hensley Return; Latest from Ian Clarkin; 3 Hits for Robert Refsnyder; Greg Bird is Rolling Along

In the GCL today, Nik Turley made his first appearance of the season, lasting four innings while giving up three runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  The 24-year old went 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA between Trenton/Scranton in 2013 (mostly Trenton) with a 141/76 K/BB ratio over 145 innings.  Turley was actually released earlier this season (procedural move to get him off of the 40-man roster) before resigning with the club.  He was out the first half of the season with an arm injury, and should make his way to Scranton in the coming weeks....Ty Hensley also made his first appearance of the year in this game.  He lasted 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts.  The 20-year old was the Yankees' first round pick in 2012, but missed all of 2013 due to injury.  In 2012, he pitched only 12 innings after signing.  He is obviously well behind on his development schedule, but the talent is probably still there.
-------------------------------------
Scranton (Defeated Pawtucket, 4-0)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  3-for-4, 2B (3), RS
Raised his AAA batting average 50 points to .293.   Third straight game with a double.     He just refuses to slow down for any long stretch of time.  After an 0-for-12 stretch 6/12-6/14, he is 10-for-25 with five walks.
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-4, K
For some reason, I simply hate typing out this name.   Either put him in the majors OR convince him to be J.R. AGAIN!
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, RBI
31-for-83 in June.  His season has simply been remarkable, which doesn't make him a remarkable prospect, obviously.
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, 2 K
Now has 45 strikeouts in 37 games, but still has managed to hit .288.    Had a .391 BABIP entering tonight (his number in Trenton this year was .429 - this isn't a speedster we are talking about in any sense of the word)
OF Taylor Dugas:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, K
Played CF again.  I would think the reasoning is because they don't feel they have other viable CF options.  Still, it adds to his value if he is even adequate at the position.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  0-for-4, K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  2-for-3, RS, BB
IF Corban Joseph:  0-for-2, RBI, RS, 2 BB

RHP Bryan Mitchell:  4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 3 K
AAA debut after a pedestrian season in Trenton (1-5 with a 5.44 ERA in 11 starts).  This could be a temporary assignment, for all we know.
LHP Francisco Rondon (W, 1-0):  2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
11 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 9 K
RHP Matt Daley:  1.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Robert Coello:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
1.95 ERA; 27.2 IP, 20 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 17 BB, 36 K
-----------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated New Hampshire, 2-1)

CF Mason Williams:  2-for-4, 2B (12), RS, CS (5)
Now 21-for-70 in June (.300).  His stolen base rate has taken a bit of a hit recently, and he is now 15-for-20.
C Gary Sanchez:  0-for-4, K
OF Ben Gamel:  2-for-4, RBI, RS, K, SB (8)
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-3, HBP, K
6-for-36 in his last ten games with 13 strikeouts.   He is 13-for-68 in June with 21 strikeouts.  I am definitely not shouting "BUST!", but this is what we mean when we say that Double-A is a very tough hurdle to get over.  The league has adjusted to him, and it is his turn to adjust back.
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4, RBI
The Yankees continue to give him some starts at third base.   Hitting .249/.318/.350 in 197 blah at-bats.
3B Rob Segedin:  2-for-3, BB
He is stretching out his modest .228 batting average with all of his walks (36 in 55 games).

RHP Jairo Heredia:   5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
I admit that I am not entirely sure what the plan is.  One moment, he is starting - the next moment, he is in the bullpen, etc.  Regardless, he continues to throw well in Trenton, but his Scranton audition was not good.
RHP Nick Goody:  1.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
David Robertson special?  Allow some baserunners, then strike everyone else out.  This was Goody's Double-A debut following 2.35 ERA in 12 games for Tampa with a 27/5 K/BB ratio in only 15.1 innings.
LHP Fred Lewis:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
The decent news is that the strikeouts are piling up - but he needs to find that consistency.
LHP Ty Webb (S, 5):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
4.30 ERA; 24 IP, 25 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 37 K since joining level.
------------------------------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Daytona, 11-4)

1B Greg Bird:  3-for-4, 2 2B (15), 2 RS, BB, K
The 15 doubles have come in only 40 games.   12-for-34 in his last ten games with seven doubles and eight walks.
3B Dante Bichette:  2-for-5, RBI, RS
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-3, BB
2-for-10 with a pair of walks in his first three games.
CF Jake Cave:  0-for-3, RS, 2 BB
OF Yeicok Calderon:  2-for-4, 2 RBI
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-5, 2B (14)

LHP Conner Kendrick (L, 3-4):  2.2 IP,5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, HR
4.34 ERA; 37.1 IP, 46 H, 21 R, 18 ER,1 HR, 12 BB, 26 K
Not many pitchers can get away with four walks in 2.2 innings, but Kendrick relies so much on control and command that if he loses the plate, he truly is toast.
RHP Cesar Vargas:  2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
38 IP, 32 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 38 K
--------------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 6-5)

SS Tyler Wade:  0-for-2, 3 BB, K, CS (7)
.266/.352/.333.  10-for-17 SB.   Now has 32 walks in 64 games.
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K
.275/.331/.486 in 109 AB.   Can't help but be impressed by that.
OF Michael O'Neill:  1-for-5, 2B (12), RS, K
.247/.330/.413 in 247 AB
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K, CS (7)
.189/.285/.306 in 196 AB.  13-for-20 SB.
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-4, RS, 3 K
1B Mike Ford:  0-for-3, BB, K
.300/.396/.475 in 200 AB.  First game since 6/6 due to injury
C Eduardo de Oleo:  1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
OF Mikeson Oliberto:  2-for-4, 2B (6), 2 RBI, RS, K

LHP Ian Clarkin:  5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
3.47 ERA; 46.2 IP, 47 H, 21 R, 18 ER, 4 HR, 11 BB, 50 K
He has been very, very impressive.
LHP Evan Rutckyj:  1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Now this is the Evan we grew to "love" in Tampa, where he walked 15 in 12.1 IP.  These are his first three walks in 9.2 at this level.
RHP Philip Walby (L, 2-2):  2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
3.86 ERA; 25.2 IP, 14 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 0 HR, 18 BB, 40 K
RHP Giovanny Gallegos:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
-------------------------------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Hudson Valley, 10-6 - it is about time their bats showed up)

1B Brady Steiger:  3-for-4, 2B (1), HR (1), 4 RBI, 3 RS
Don't get too excited - he is 23 years old signed as a non-drafted FA last year.
CF Devyn Bolasky:  2-for-4, RBI, 3 RS, BB, K, 2 SB (2)
This is pretty much the type of player he needs to be, because power will never be a big part of his game.
OF Chris Breen:  2-for-3, 2 2B (3), 2 RS, BB, K
10-for-25 on the young season.
2B Ty McFarland:  2-for-4, 2B (3), 3 RBI
8-for-25.
SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-4, CS (1)
4-for-28
1B Bo Thompson:  0-for-3, BB, K
1-for-14 with three walks.

RHP Jordan Cote:  3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR
Pitched to a 5.32 ERA in 10 games for Charleston this season with a 18/9 K/BB ratio over 22 innings.
RHP Conor Mullee (W, 1-1):  1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
There was a time when Mullee's fastball was considered plus-plus-plus.  Perhaps it still is, but he is now 26 years old with injuries on his resume.
LHP Rony Bautista:  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
On nights when he has some command, he can be devastating.  He just needs those nights to be more frequent.

Yankees Minor League Report 6/20/14: Gary Sanchez Homers; Luis Severino Makes Tampa Debut; Dustin Fowler Continues to Hit

The GCL squads started their seasons today.  As I have stated many times, I do not post a full report on the GCL nightly.  I will report on interesting players, etc. from time to time.

Jose Mateo, a 18-year old shortstop prospect, went 2-for-6 in his first ever game in the states.  Last year, in the DSL, he hit .287/.378/.450.    Mateo will be a fun prospect to watch, and should be closing in on "Top X Prospects in the Yankees System" lists by next season, if all goes according to plan.    He has power and rates a 70 on the 20-80 scouting scale for his speed......Luis Torrens, who just turned 18 years old, went 0-for-2 today.  The catcher actually started the season in Charleston at the age of 17 this year, going 4-for-26 with a home run.....21-year old RHP Simon De la Rosa worked 2.1 innings, giving up a run on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.   He pitched to a 3.77 ERA and 60/33 K/BB ratio over 45.1 innings in the DSL last season...Domingo Acevedo, a 20-year old RHP, threw four innings today, giving up two runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.   Acevedo is yet another big boy in this organization, at 6'7" and weighing 245 pounds.   He supposedly was hitting 96 on the gun as early as 17 years old, and sits consistently in the 92-94 range.  The offspeed stuff needs to be developed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scranton (Lost to Pawtucket, 3-2)

C John Ryan Murphy:  2-for-4, 2B (4), K
Supposedly, scouts from the Phillies were impressed and Kyle Kendrick will make his Yankees debut next week.
2B Robert Refsnyder: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, BB, SB (2)
5th walk in last three games, making up for the fact that he didn't walk at his normal rate in Trenton (he was only getting 2+ hits every night).
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, HR (5), RBI, RS, K
He has a little bit of what you may call "surprise" pop in his bat.  He did hit ten home runs to go along with his 27 doubles and five triples last season.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  0-for-4, K
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-2, BB, K, SB (1)
Triple-A debut.  Actually played center field tonight.   He has enough speed to mix in some steals from time to time.
1B Kyle Roller:  1-for-4, K
IF Scott Sizemore:  0-for-4, K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  1-for-3, 2B (18), RS, BB, K

RHP Joel De La Cruz:  3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Pitched to a batter in the 4th, then left the game.  Not sure why.
3.80 ERA; 47.1 IP, 53 H, 30 R, 20 ER, 3 HR, 13 BB, 26 K
RHP Preston Claiborne:  2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
3.00 ERA; 15 IP, 15 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 17 K
RHP Heath Bell:  1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Send all checks to Heath Bell's Run Charity, Scranton, PA
RHP Robert Coello: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Cleaned up Bell's mess.
--------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated New Hampshire, 8-5)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-5, HR (8), 2 RBI, 2 RS
CF Mason Williams:  2-for-4, RS, CS (4)
19-for-65 in June
OF Ben Gamel:  2-for-5, 3B (3), 2 RBI
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  1-for-4, 2B (5), 2 K
Hitting .225 (151 AB) since promotion with 18 XBH.
3B/RF Tyler Austin:  0-for-3, RS, BB, K
3B Rob Segedin: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K
Now has 35 walks in 54 games.
UTIL Zach Wilson:  2-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS
First game at this level since 4/12 (was demoted to Tampa)
SS Ali Castillo:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB

LHP Eric Wooten:  6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
4.40 ERA since joining level; 28.2 IP, 28 H, 16 R, 14 ER, 9 BB, 16 K
RHP Taylor Garrison (W, 3-1):  2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
2.79 ERA; 29 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 17 K
LHP James Pazos (S, 2):  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
3.86 ERA; 7 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 11 K since promotion
The minute Lindgren steps on a hill, he becomes the team's best left-handed relief prospect.  But Pazos is a pretty good one in his own right.
------------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Lakeland, 7-1)

1B Greg Bird:  1-for-2, 2 BB
Seems to be getting back to the Greg Bird we saw last year.
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K
CF Jake Cave:  2-for-5, RBI, K
Just under the magical .300 mark (.299).
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-3, BB
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-5, 3 K
7-for-36 in last ten games with ten strikeouts.
OF Yeicok Calderon:  0-for-4, 4 K
And this is what is wrong with Calderon - he has power potential, but he strikes out a ton. (125 in 413 AB last year)

RHP Luis Severino (L, 0-1):  4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
Decent debut (I know, I know - it is a 5.79 ERA).  20-year old had a 2.79 ERA in 14 starts for Charleston with a 70/15 K/BB ratio over 67.2 IP.
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Nick Rumbelow:  1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
25 IP, 17 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 BB, 35 K between Charleston/Tampa
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 6-1)

OF Dustin Fowler:  2-for-4, 2B (8), RS, SB (2)
16-for-40 in his last ten games with ten of those hits going for extra bases.  As an added bonus, he is playing a lot of center field.
OF Michael O'Neill:  2-for-3, 2B (11), HBP
13-for-40 in last ten games with five walks and six strikeouts.
SS Tyler Wade:  0-for-2, 2 BB, K
10-for-37 in last ten games with ten walks.  Drawing walks, hitting for a decent average (.268), and stealing some bases (10), though not at a good rate (16 attempts).  Overall, solid year.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  0-for-4, 2 K
78 strikeouts in 59 games.
3B Miguel Andujar:  0-for-4
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-4, 2B (6)
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-4, RBI, K
He drove in a run (13th in 43 games), so that is something at least.

LHP Chaz Hebert:  3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Angel Rincon (L, 1-1):  2.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
5.14 ERA; 21 IP, 19 H, 14 R, 12 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 16 K
RHP Eric Ruth: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K
54.2 IP, 50 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 1 HR, 21 BB, 53 K between four levels.
RHP Cole Coshow:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Hudson Valley, 3-0)

SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-3, K
OF Austin Aune:  1-for-4, K
C/CF Collin Slaybaugh:  0-for-4, 3 K
1B Chris Breen:  1-for-4, 2 K
2B Ty McFarland:  0-for-4, K
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-3, K
Catch a theme?  These bozos struck out 13 times tonight.
1B Bubba Jones:  0-for-3, 3 K

RHP Sam Agnew-Wieland (L, 0-1):  4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Hasn't sabermetrics determined that hyphenated names never make it in the big leagues?
LHP Ethan Carnes:  3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
5.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 5 K

Yankees Minor League Notes: Promotions Update

Some mid-season promotion news, courtesy of RiverAveBlues.   Forgot to put this in my nightly report:

As you know, OF Aaron Judge is now in Tampa, and made his debut tonight.

OF Taylor Dugas, who had a slash of .294/.403/.424 for Trenton and owns a .422 career OBP in 968 minor league plate appearances, has been promoted to Scranton.   The pint-sized 24-year old OBP machine has not stopped hitting since the day he entered the organization.  #4 OF potential, but he can really only cover center in a severe pinch (not that the Yankees need center covered)

RHP Nick Goody, who owns a 14.7 K/9 in 37 minor league games, has been promoted to Trenton.  Goody had Tommy John surgery last year (if he would have been healthy, he likely starts 2014 in Trenton).  Anyway, he is a legit relief prospect to watch.

UTILITY Zach Wilson has rejoined Trenton (where he was 6-for-28 to start the season) after putting up a .266/.306/.406 line in 210 plate appearances for Tampa.   At 23 and with some flexibility, he isn't a dead prospect - but he is not really someone to get excited about.

Yankees Minor League Report 6/19/14: Aaron Judge Debuts in Tampa; Dan Camarena Ks 10; Michael O'Neill Hits Two Home Runs; Dustin Fowler: 3 Doubles

Scranton (Lost to Toledo, 7-4)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
8-for-34 since joining level; second consecutive two-walk game.  Overall, he is hitting .328/.378/.519 in 262 AB with 18 walks and 46 strikeouts.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  2-for-5, 2B (12), RS
.324/.363/.447 in 262 AB.   I list him as utility, but he has essentially be playing nothing but left field recently.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-5, RBI, RS
.284/.329/.485 in 194 AB
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-4
.298/.388/.511 in 131 AB since promotion.
IF Scott Sizemore:  1-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, K
.270/.335/.405 in 185 AB.   Has an .881 OPS (in 57 AB) vs. LHP
C Austin Romine:  0-for-4
.223/.294/.351 in 148 AB.  Was hitting well recently, but is 1-for-16 in last four games.
IF Russ Canzler:  0-for-2, BB
IF Corban Joseph:  1-for-1, RBI
Pinch-hit for Canzler.

RHP Alfredo Aceves:  3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Switch Pat Venditte:  2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
4.58 ERA; 17.2 IP, 21 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 17 K since promotion.   There has always been a curiosity about Venditte, but we need to be honest:  He is making his living as an organizational pitcher.
LHP Francisco Rondon:  0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
8.1 scoreless innings since joining level with 7/4 K/BB ratio.
RHP Danny Burawa:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
3.24 ERA; 25 IP, 20 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 32 K
Walks have always been an issue.    He walked 42 in 66 IP last season.
---------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Lakeland, 3-2, thanks to a 2-run bottom of the 9th)

OF Aaron Judge:  2-for-4, K
Now the real test begins.
1B Greg Bird:  3-for-5, 2B (13), RBI, RS, K
The doubles are piling up, so hopefully the home runs are soon to follow.   (Last year, he did have 36 doubles in addition to his 20 home runs)
OF Yeicok Calderon:  3-for-3, 2 2B (7), HR (1), RBI, RS
The 6'2" left-handed bat isn't dead as a prospect just yet, but progress is needed.   He missed a big portion of the season, so this was only his 14th game.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K, PO
It seems that hitting for average won't be much of an issue.   A few things you wonder about:  Is there more home run power in his future?  Will he begin to walk at least a little bit more? (23 in 68 games this season)    At 21 years of age, he has definitely impressed.
SS Cito Culver:  2-for-5, K
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-5, RBI
.270/.356/.418 in 244 AB.

LHP Dan Camarena:  6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, HR, 1 BB, 10 K
2.72 ERA; 76 IP, 67 H, 35 R, 23 ER, 6 HR, 25 BB, 63 K
The Yankees have taken a "one level at a time" approach with the 21-year old.   Tonight's game aside, he really is not a power guy - but a legitimate prospect due to his command of three quality pitches.
RHP Jarod Long (W, 1-2):  3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
2.02 ERA; 62.1 IP, 51 H, 20 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 58 K between Charleston/Tampa
-----------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Kannapolis, 10-7.   Their team nickname is the "Intimidators".   At 29-38 and giving up a zillion runs tonight, who the hell are they intimidating?)

OF Michael O'Neill:  2-for-5, 2 HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 RS
Had five home runs in April, and none in May.   K rate continues to fall, but is still unsightly (76 in 65 games.   Through April, he had 36 in 24 games)
OF Dustin Fowler:  3-for-5, 3 2B (7), 2 RBI
Fourth consecutive multi-hit game, and is now 17-for-53 in June with nine extra base hits.  Excellent adjustment after a 10-for-48 May (his season didn't debut until mid-May).  Anyway, just keep it up, kid.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (10)
Hitting streak is up to eight.    For now, he is pretty much a singles hitter without much power - but at 6'1", there could be time to grow into a little bit of extra-base power (remember, he is still a teen).   He is now hitting .270.
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4, 3 RS, BB, K, SB (1)
Only his sixth career SB in 148 games, so that is not a part of his game at all.   Has pretty much struggled the entire season, especially since April.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K, SB (13)
Hitting better as of late (10-for-36 in last ten games).   Has raised his average to .191, which shows you where he was.
1B Reymond Nunez:  2-for-5, 2B (5), RBI, RS, K
C Eduardo de Oleo:  1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, SF
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-3, 2 HBP
Down to .144 in 139 AB.  His OPS has surged in June, however.  From .431 in May to .493 in June before tonight!

RHP Rookie Davis: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
5.19 ERA; 60.2 IP, 67 H, 39 R, 35 ER, 24 BB, 50 K
Other than a five shutout inning performance his last time out, he has struggled for an extended period.
LHP Omar Luis:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
6.29 ERA; 24.1 IP, 25 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 19 BB, 16 K
RHP Giovanny Gallegos: 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
5.77 ERA; 43.2 IP, 54 H, 34 R, 28 ER, 4 HR, 10 BB, 42 K
He actually had a 4.26 ERA in 25.1 innings as a starter.  Getting torched in the bullpen.
LHP Evan Rutckyj:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
8.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 14 K since demotion.   Had 15 walks in 12.1 innings for Tampa.
--------------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Aberdeen, 5-4)

1B Bubba Jones:  2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K
First HR for Staten Island this season (7 games).
C/OF Collin Slaybaugh:  2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RS, BB, SB (2)
SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-4, RS, SB (2)
First hit of the season (1-for-21).   I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles for a bit, given his age.  Like with many prospects, you just want to see improvement as the season goes along.
2B Ty McFarland:  1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, BB, 2 K
OF Nathan Mikolas:  2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
Parents with a sense of humor would have named him Nicholas.
OF Austin Aune:  0-for-5, K
2-for-22.  Haven't we seen this before?
1B Chris Breen: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, BB, K
20-year old is off to a strong start.

RHP David Palladino:  4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HR
7.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 7 K in two starts.  Obviously, this one was better than his first one.
RHP Matt Wotherspoon:  1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Professional debut for the 34th round pick out of Pittsburgh.    Struck out 8.4/9 in 91.1 innings for the Panthers.
RHP Jose Pena (S, 1):  1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
23-year old has been around since 2009, mostly in the DSL.    5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K in two games

Yankees Minor League Report 6/18/14: Latest from Manny Banuelos; Rafael DePaula Torched; Is There a Position Collin Slaybaugh Can't Play?

Scranton (Down 4-3 in the 8th inning to Toledo.  It is pouring in Toledo right now.  If the game does resume, oh well - I jumped the gun by reporting on it)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  0-for-3, 2 BB
First two walks since joining level (eight games)
UTIL Jose Pirela:  0-for-4, RS, BB
1B Kyle Roller:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
Now has 43 RBI in 55 games between Trenton/Scranton
OF Zoilo Almonte:  0-for-4, K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  2-for-3, 2B (17), RS, BB, K
OF Antoan Richardson:  2-for-3, RS, BB, SB (18)
The fact that Russ Canzler pinch ran for him is probably not a good thing.
IF Corban Joseph:  1-for-3, 2B (5), BB, K
C Francisco Arcia:  1-for-3, SF, RBI

RHP Bruce Billings:  7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, HR
--------------------------------
Trenton (Lost to Bowie, 3-2)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-4, K
3-for-12 since returning from suspension.    8-for-36 in June.
1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4, K
6-game hitting streak (8-for-23, though only one of those hits is for extra bases)
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-4, K
Even with some recent success, he is still only hitting .221/.305/.296.
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-4, K
.276/.319/.354 in 297 AB.
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, K
6-for-38 in last ten games with 11 strikeouts.  12-for-61 in June.  He has flashed his power at this level, but the batting average has definitely taken a fall.   We'll see how he rebounds/adjusts.
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-4, K
.294/.403/.424 in 177 AB.    The OBP is no fluke - he put up a .405 number in 113 games last season.   There is legitimate #4 OF potential here, but he doesn't offer up any home run power and his speed is maybe slightly above average.  He is all about getting on base.
SS Ali Castillo: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 E (9)
.216/.264/.266 in 199 AB

LHP Manny Banuelos:  3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
Threw 52 pitches tonight.  The Yankees are supposedly ready to start stretching him out a bit soon.  Has a 3.57 ERA for Trenton in 22.2 innings with a 21/9 K/BB ratio.
RHP Zach Nuding (L, 2-1):  5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, HR
Strong outing, but his bad performance in Scranton lingers.  That said, he is likely a future bullpen guy who can dial it up into the high-90s in short stints.   From what I have read, the Yankees have kept him in the rotation and stretched out in order to work on his breaking stuff.
RHP Phil Wetherell:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
----------------------
Tampa (Destroyed by Daytona, 11-2)
1B Greg Bird:  2-for-4, 2B (12)
.246/.344/.403.  Those 12 doubles have come in 134 AB.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-5, RBI, K
.296/.350/.389.
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-4, K
.234/.301/.317 in 252 AB
3B Dante Bichette:  0-for-3, BB, K
12-for-53 in June with no home runs (only two XBH)
OF Yeicok Calderon: 0-for-4
OF Zach Wilson:  1-for-4, 3B (4), RS

RHP Rafael DePaula (L, 2-5):  1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
5.86 ERA; 55.1 IP, 64 H, 39 R, 36 ER, 4 HR, 28 BB, 71 K
Last two starts:  13 runs allowed on 11 hits in three innings.
RHP Kyle Haynes:  3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
3.06 ERA; 32.1 IP, 35 H, 19 R, 11 ER, 15 BB, 26 K.  Acquired for Chris Stewart.
RHP Cesar Vargas: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
35.2 IP, 30 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 37 K between Charleston/Tampa.
---------------------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Aberdeen, 1-0)

OF Austin Aune:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K
2-for-17 with three walks and five strikeouts.
SS Thairo Estrada:  0-for-3
0-for-17 as we patiently await his first hit.
1B Bo Thompson: 1-for-4, 2 K
First professional hit (1-for-11)
C/OF Collin Slaybaugh:  1-for-3, 2B (1), K
First professional game behind the plate after starting the first few games in center field.  Quick:  Name the last C/CF in big league history (I don't have the answer)
OF Devyn Bolasky:  1-for-4, K
First professional hit (1-for-8)
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-3, 2 K
1-for-12.  Sense a theme?  Staten Island isn't hitting much to begin their season.
2B Jose Javier:  1-for-3

RHP Andy Beresford:  4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
The 6'7" right-hander pitched to a 5.06 ERA in 10.2 innings for Charleston earlier this season.   Last year, he had a 1.80 ERA here with a 19/5 K/BB ratio over 30 innings.   He is already 24 years old (he was a fifth year senior last year for UNLV, and the oldest player the Yankees drafted last year).  He has already undergone one Tommy John surgery - when he returned from that, he tore his UCL again on his first pitch.  He opted for an alternative therapy (PRP) and became UNLV's closer.  Anyway, as you would suspect with his height, he throws hard (mid-90s) but the secondary stuff is below average.
RHP Francis Joseph:  1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Roughed up in first outing, so this is nice to see at least.  The 20-year old compiled a 4.18 ERA and 29/4 K/BB ratio over 28 innings for the GCL squad last year.

Yankees Minor League Report 6/17/14: Matt Tracy & Miguel Sulbaran Toss 6 Strong Innings; Jose Pirela Continues His Hitting Ways

In the Sally League All-Star Game tonight, Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI in what will be his last Sally League appearance.  He will be heading to Tampa now.  Brady Lail tossed a scoreless inning of relief in a game that ended in a 4-4 tie.
-------------------------------
Scranton (Defeated Toledo, 8-7)

C Austin Romine:  1-for-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, RS
I will assume that Romine will get some 1B/DH time in addition to being Murphy's backup.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  2-for-5, 2B (11), RBI, RS, K
He is typically streaky...but this is beyond a streak.  After a .346/.400/.462 May, he is 27-for-66 in June.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-5, RS
6-for-28
IF Scott Sizemore:  2-for-4, 3B (3), 2 RBI, BB, K
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-3, 2 BB
Actually started the night in center field.  He is typically a corner OF (especially RF)
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-3, 2 RS, BB, K, HBP
Whether one thinks of him as a prospect or not, one cannot deny his strong season.
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  1-for-5, RS, 2 K
SS Carmen Angelini:  2-for-4, 2B (8), RS, E (5)
He has done a respectable job here (.263 in 99 AB), but still - nothing to get excited about.

LHP Jeremy Bleich:  4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
10 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 9 K since promotion.
RHP Robert Coello:  2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
2.05 ERA; 26.1 IP, 20 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 33 K
-----------------------
Trenton (Lost to Bowie, 5-2)

CF Mason Williams:  0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, SB (15)
Now has 30 walks in 62 games as he continues to bounce back from a bad start.   There was a lot of damage done, so the numbers will not look pretty unless he can have a sustained hot streak.
C Gary Sanchez: 1-for-4, 2B (13)
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, 2 K
6-for-38 in last ten games (.158).  12-for-57 with 17 K in June.
3B Rob Segedin: 1-for-4, RBI, K
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-4
1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4, RS, K
OF Taylor Dugas:  1-for-4, K, CS (1)
UTIL Ali Castillo: 2-for-2, 2B (8), RBI, BB

LHP Matt Tracy:  6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
80.1 IP, 87 H, 35 R, 32 ER, 4 HR, 30 BB, 40 K in 14 games (13 starts) between Trenton/Scranton.
Tracy is an intriguing prospect, who has five pitches in his arsenal (two-seamer, four-seamer, cutter, change, curve).   He is already 25 years old, so we aren't talking a young kid with an ace-like future.   More like potential 4th-5th starter type, which are valuable in their own right.  Missed some time last year with a hip/back issue that did not require surgery.
LHP Ty Webb (L, 1-4):  1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
4.50 ERA since joining level with 35/10 K/BB ratio over 22 IP.    First HR allowed this year in 35 IP between Tampa/Trenton.
RHP Manny Barreda:  0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
--------------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Daytona, 1-0)

3B Dante Bichette:  2-for-4, 2B (15), RBI, K
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K
.297/.351/.391 in 276 AB.  Strikeouts are a bit high (59) and he is only 13-for-56 in June.
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-4, 2 K
.238/.340/.392 in 130 AB with 21 walks and 36 strikeouts.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4
.234/.302/.319 in 248 AB.  2-for-17 slide.
OF Yeicok Calderon: 1-for-4, K

LHP Miguel Sulbaran (W, 1-1):  6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
3.50 ERA; 44.2 IP, 50 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 28 K
Last three starts:  15 IP, 16 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 11 K
RHP Nick Goody:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
2.35 ERA; 15.1 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 27 K
He is a bit of an Adam Warren type reliever, as he has a four pitch arsenal he uses to get hitters out.
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Former Marlins prospect missed both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, seemingly due to a shoulder injury.    He is already 27 years old, and the Yankees are just taking a flyer here.
RHP Nick Rumbelow (S, 1):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
24 IP, 15 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 35 K between Charleston/Tampa.    Goody is probably a better prospect, but not by much - Rumbelow can deal.
----------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Aberdeen, 4-3, thanks to a 2-run bottom of the 9th)

OF Nathan Mikolas:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, K
Had the game-winning two-run single to send the crowd home happy.   3rd round pick in 2012 hit .256/.355/.405 in 195 GCL AB last season.
1B Chris Breen:  2-for-4, 3B (1), K
6-for-14 start.
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  1-for-4, RS
SS Thairo Estrada:  0-for-3, RS, SAC
Looking for first hit of season (0-for-14)
RF Austin Aune:  1-for-4, RBI, K, SB (1)
OF Devyn Bolasky:  0-for-4
Smallish (5'11") outfielder was selected in the 31st round of this year's draft.   Pure contact guy who doesn't walk much, doesn't strike out much, has little power, but plenty of speed.

RHP Dillon McNamara:  3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Another big pitcher (6'5") selected in last year's draft.  Compiled a 2.19 ERA in 37 innings at this level last year with a 31/17 K/BB ratio.
LHP Rony Bautista:  3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Pitched to a 4.76 ERA in Charleston this season with a 10/11 K/BB ratio in 11.1 innings.  One of the biggest lottery tickets in the entire organization (literally, at 6'7")
RHP Travis Hissong:  1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Non-drafted free agent out of Wright State.    Has a Tommy John surgery and a torn hamstring injury on his resume.
