Scranton (Lost to Buffalo, 8-5)
Melky Mesa: 2-for-5, HR (12), 3 RBI, 2 RS - .264/.296/.462 in 277 AB for Scranton. Three HR in last seven games.
JR Murphy: 2-for-4, RS, BB - .772 OPS for Scranton; .773 for Trenton. He has played a lot - especially recently - making you believe that the Yankees may be setting him up to take on a major league workload in 2014. A lot of time between now and then, obviously.
Ronnier Mustelier: 1-for-5, RS - .233/.273/.342 in 252 AB.
Dan Johnson: 0-for-3, 2 BB - .248/.372/.449 in 408 AB with 80 walks.
David Huff (L, 4-7): 5.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 5 K - 3.84 ERA in 68 innings for Scranton with a 64/13 K/BB ratio.
Chase Whitley: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K (3.70 ERA; 48.2 IP, 49 H, 20 R, 20 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 48 K) - Will be in play for a relief job in 2014.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Akron, 5-1)
Slade Heathcott and Gary Sanchez were both given the day off.
Ramon Flores: 1-for-3, 2B (18), 2 RBI, RS, BB - 12-game hitting streak. Hitting .253/.340/.344 in 450 AB. It may not seem like much, but you want to see improvement throughout a season when it comes to a prospect. For now, I have guarded optimism that he has turned the corner at least a little bit.
Jose Pirela: 2-for-3, 2B (18), 2 RBI, RS - After a terrible start in April/May, he came on strong in June/July. Hasn't been quite as strong in August (9-for-35).
Kyle Roller: 1-for-3, RBI, BB
Saxon Butler: 0-for-2, RS, BB - 1-for-12 since promotion.
Nik Turley (W, 9-6): 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K (3.63 ERA; 124 IP, 99 H, 55 R, 50 ER, 10 HR, 60 BB, 123 K) - Will take up a residence in Scranton in 2014 with a real chance to get to the majors during the season. Last 4 starts: 24 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 15 K
Tommy Kahnle: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (2.05 ERA; 52.2 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 4 HR, 32 BB, 63 K) - 27 hits in 52.2 innings is ridiculously good.

Tampa (Lost to Daytona, 5-4)
Mason Williams: 2-for-5, SB (14) - Much needed game. He is now 6-for-40 in the month of August.
Robert Refsnyder: 2-for-5, RBI - He has been walking a lot lately - nice to see him add a few hits to his ledger. Combined with Charleston, he has 70 walks and 73 strikeouts in 401 AB. Refsnyder started red hot, then cooled off - but if you are going to have a walk rate like that, you are going to be valuable.
Ben Gamel: 0-for-3, RS, 2 BB - Hitting .274 with 46 walks in 92 games. As stated previously, the most encouraging sign for Gamel has been the spike in XBH this year: 35 in 351 AB compared to 30 in 444 AB last year. If he is able to convert some of the doubles he hits into home runs, he will become a legit outfield prospect.
Pete O'Brien: 0-for-5, 3 K - Now has 115 K in 98 games this season. Of course, he also has 55 XBH.
Taylor Dugas: 1-for-3, RS, BB, SB (6) - Hitting .252 for Tampa. Has 51 walks and 35 strikeouts overall on the season.
Dan Fiorito: 2-for-4
Matt Snyder: 0-for-4
Jairo Heredia: 4 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR - Has a 2.45 ERA for Tampa with a 24/5 K/BB ratio over 18.1 innings. Heredia is a real wild-card at this point; missed 2012 due to shoulder surgery. There was a time when he was majorly hyped in this system; at one time, his manager in the GCL nicknamed him "Pedro Martinez Jr".
-------------------------------------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Rome, 1-0)
Jake Cave: 2-for-4 - .282/.345/.399 in 386 AB.
Greg Bird: 0-for-1, 3 BB - .283/.416/.503. 86 walks in 110 games.
Reymond Nunez: 1-for-4, HR (13), RBI, RS - .252/.314/.434. Second HR in two games.
Cito Culver: 0-for-3, BB - .232/.312/.344 in 410 AB. .215/.321/.283 last year at the same level. As I have stated previously, he has shown marginal improvement.
Jackson Valera: 1-for-3
Eric Wooten (W, 1-1): 6 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K (0.45 ERA; 20 IP, 16 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 15 K) - 23-year old LHP signed out of the Frontier League. Originally drafted by the Orioles. In his minor league career, he has walked 17 batters in 127.2 innings.
Ty Webb: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (4.19 ERA; 19.1 IP, 16 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 3 BB, 23 K) - Power LHP has a chance to move relatively quickly.
Jose Campos (S, 1): 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (3.67 ERA; 81 IP, 80 H, 37 R, 33 ER, 5 HR, 16 BB, 71 K) - Don't worry, I am pretty sure this is a move to control his innings a bit, and nothing more. Had a rough outing last time out, but has been mostly outstanding after a bit of a tough start to his season.
------------------------------------------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Lowell, 3-1)
Michael O'Neill: 1-for-3, 2B (14) - .250/.305/.337 in 184 AB.
Eric Jagielo: 0-for-4, 2 K - .248/.358/.336
Brandon Thomas: 0-for-4, 3 K
Trent Garrison: 1-for-3
John Murphy: 1-for-3 - SS is hitting only .177/.230/.230 in 113 AB
Bubba Jones: 1-for-3 - .291/.361/.397 in 151 AB; 35-for-109 in July/August after a slow start.
Rookie Davis (L, 2-3): 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K - 2.55 ERA in 35.1 innings with a 38/13 K/BB ratio. Not sure why he was pulled from the game, but the numbers indicate that perhaps he was struggling a tad.
Conner Kendrick: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K - 3.52 ERA with a 19/16 K/BB ratio over 30.2 innings. 20-year old LHP
Nick Rumbelow: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K - I believe there have been some concerns about his mechanics; but if he can stay away from injury, he could be another one that will climb the ranks quickly. I have always said that when a reliever conquers a level, move him. There is nothing easier to move in the system than a relief pitcher.
