Scranton (Defeated Syracuse, 7-1, to improve to 5-5)
OF Ramon Flores: 4-for-4, 2 2B (4), 3B (2), 4 RS, BB
From .148 to .258 in one day. Flores has six walks in 10 games, and six of his eight hits this season have gone for extra bases.
C John Ryan Murphy: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RS, K
5-for-26 without a walk.
2B/3B Scott Sizemore: 2-for-5, 3B (1), 3 RBI, 2 K
He is hitting .344 (11-for-32), but has also struck out 16 times.
OF Zoilo Almonte: 3-for-5
.242/.286/.333 in 33 AB. Six hits in last three games, so hoping he is starting to heat up.
1B/3B Russ Canzler: 1-for-3, 2 RBI
2B Corban Joseph: 1-for-4
C Austin Romine: 1-for-3, 2 RS, BB
OF Antoan Richardson: 2-for-3, RBI, SB (3)
He is one of those guys who will be in the running for a September callup if there is any 40-man roster space - just based on his speed alone.
SS Carmen Angelini: 0-for-4, 2 K
5-for-20
RHP Bruce Billings (W, 2-1): 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
RHP Danny Burawa: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
9 strikeouts in 5 innings thus far. Hasn't allowed a run.
RHP Mark Montgomery: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Also hasn't allowed a run in five innings. 5/2 K/BB ratio
---------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Erie, 4-2)
C Gary Sanchez: 2-for-4, 2B (5), BB, K
Up to .353. Started the year 1-for-8. 11-for-26 since.
CF Mason Williams: 2-for-5, HR (1), RBI, RS
Six extra-base hits in 10 games with only four strikeouts. Interestingly, he has yet to even attempt a stolen base.
3B/OF Tyler Austin: 2-for-4, RS, BB
6-for-25. Still looking for first XBH.
OF Ben Gamel: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K
1B Kyle Roller: 1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, BB
2014 debut. Roller hit .253/.347/.427 at this level last year. He is 26, so young prospect he is not .
2B Robert Refsnyder: 0-for-3, BB, K
Early season struggles continue (5-for-35, 2 BB, 15 K)
OF Taylor Dugas: 1-for-4, 2B (2)
LHP Matt Tracy (W, 2-0): 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Second consecutive strong start to begin the season. 25-year old is far from a big prospect, but has been on a sleeper list or two in the past.
Switch Pat Venditte: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Free Pat Venditte!
RHP Taylor Garrison (S, 1): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Nice bounce back after a bad debut (2 ER in 1 IP first time out). 23-year old has pitched well in his first two years in the organization - we'll see how he does in the upper section of the minor leagues now.
-----------------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Daytona, 7-3)
SS Cito Culver: 2-for-4, 2 2B (4), 2 RBI, BB, K
Random fact: Has at least one hit in eight of ten games this season. However, today's walk was his first - after walking 52 times in 120 games in 2013.
3B Eric Jagielo: 0-for-4, RS, BB, E (4)
.220/.273/.488 in 41 AB. Not really the time to worry about the errors too much.
3B Dante Bichette: 1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
Now has 10 walks in 10 games (7 strikeouts)
C/OF Pete O'Brien: 1-for-4, RS
.333/.366/.692 in 39 AB.
2B Angelo Gumbs: 3-for-4, RBI, RS
.308/.325/.308 in 39 AB.
CF Jake Cave: 1-for-5, RS, 2 K
.209/.261/.302 in 43 AB
LHP Manny Banuelos: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
Don't get me wrong: It is easy to get excited over this. I mean, in 9 innings this year, he has allowed four hits and one walk while striking out 10. But this is just the warm up phase - what happens when he gets to Scranton?
RHP Eric Roth (W, 1-0): 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
23-year old Winthrop graduate (and you thought they only played basketball!) has struck out seven in seven innings to start his campaign.
----------------------------------------------
Charleston: (Lost to Augusta, 3-2)
SS Abiatal Avelino: 1-for-3, RS, BB, 2 SB (5), K
7-for-31 with five steals in five tries (28-for-32 last season)
OF Aaron Judge: 2-for-4, RBI, 2 K
9-for-36. 8 walks, 9 strikeouts. First professional RBI.
OF Michael O'Neill: 1-for-4, 2B (1), 2 K
CF Brandon Thomas: 0-for-4, K
Hitting .175 (7-for-40)
2B/SS Tyler Wade: 0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K
Only hitting .129 (4-for-31) with seven walks.
IF John Murphy: 2-for-3, K
8-for-18. Has played five games, and has covered three different positions (2B, SS, 3B)
C Luis Torrens: 0-for-3, K
Hitting .095. Perhaps he is a tad overmatched at the moment?
LHP Caleb Smith: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
22-year old was drafted in the 14th round last year out of Sam Houston State. He throws very hard (93-95) with a solid circle change, and a developing slider. The Yankees do a solid job in the middle-to-late-rounds in the draft, and Smith may just become another example of that.
RHP Cesar Vargas: 3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
The 22-year old hasn't allowed an earned run (one unearned) in 9.1 innings to start the season. He has an impressive 15/2 K/BB ratio. Vargas has steadily moved up the chain - starting his journey all the way down in the Dominican Summer League in 2009. All 25 of his appearances last year were starts, posting a 4-8 record with a 4.10 ERA. He did get torched in a three-start trial in Tampa, however.
RHP Stefan Lopez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
