Down in the GCL, SS Jorge Mateo continues his impressive start. He went 3-for-4 with a double, run batted in, three runs scored, a walk, and his 11th stolen base of the season....RHP Luis Niebla made his season debut, tossing three innings, giving up one run on a hit with two walks and five strikeouts. Niebla pitched to a 4.61 ERA in 80 innings for Charleston last season, striking out 60 while walking 20.....
----------
Scranton (Defeated Buffalo, 4-1)
RHP Robert Coello opted out of his contract. He put up a 1.69 ERA in 32 innings for Scranton with a 44/21 K/BB ratio. His claim to fame is a very funky "trick" pitch that he throws. I assume his agent found him a better opportunity elsewhere.
UTIL Jose Pirela: 3-for-5, RS, K
Hitting .322 in 323 AB. Now 8-for-17 in July.
2B Robert Refsnyder: 0-for-3, 2 BB, K

First game since 6/9. .309/.346/.455 in 220 AB for the 28-year old.
IF Scott Sizemore: 1-for-4, 2B (13), 2 RBI
It has to be somewhat revealing that Wheeler was pushed ahead of him on the depth chart, no?
1B Kyle Roller: 1-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
CF Antoan Richardson: 2-for-4
He actually returned yesterday, but I didn't notice. It is Antoan Richardson, afterall.
RHP Chris Leroux: 6 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
LHP Francisco Rondon (W, 3-0): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Trenton (Defeated Portland, 8-0)
3B Rob Segedin: 3-for-4, 2B (10), HR (7), 4 RBI, RS, K
Walks have been his calling card this year (Entering this game, his OBP was higher than his SLG) - nice to see him add some pop to his numbers.
C/1B Pete O'Brien: 3-for-4, 3 RS
More of this, please. By the way, although he plays a lot of first base now, he still also acts as Gary Sanchez' backup. He caught tonight.
OF Ben Gamel: 2-for-5, 2B (23), 2 RBI, RS, K
Finally on a bit of a hot streak. 14-for-40 in past ten games with seven doubles.
1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin: 1-for-4, RS
6-game hitting streak, all 1-hit games. 10-for-35 in last ten games.
CF Mason Williams: 2-for-5, RS, K
First hits of July (2-for-14)
UTIL Zach Wilson: 2-for-4, 3B (1), 2 RBI
LHP Matt Tracy (W, 8-2): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
3.28 ERA; 82.1 IP, 89 H, 33 R, 30 ER, 3 HR, 33 BB, 48 K
Ground ball pitcher who doesn't have the nicest of K/BB ratios.
LHP Cesar Cabral: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
13 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 16 K for Trenton
LHP Ty Webb: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
43.2 IP, 39 H, 19 R, 19 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 61 K between Tampa/Trenton
LHP James Pazos: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
1.98 ERA; 13.2 IP, 12 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 16 K since promotion. Took him 29 pitches to get these two outs and was removed.
------------
Tampa (Defeated Lakeland, 4-3)
OF Aaron Judge: 1-for-2, HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
Third consecutive game with HR. Now has 12 home runs and 57 RBI between Charleston/Tampa. He has also drawn 52 walks. He is coming on very strongly, to say the least.
1B Greg Bird: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K
Numbers are good overall, but he does have 49 K in 49 games, which is actually a lower rate than last year (132 in 130 games). If you walk as much as he does and hit for some power, it is not a huge deal - but probably still advisable to cut that down a bit.
3B Dante Bichette: 1-for-3, RS, BB
Has hit safely in nine of his last ten games and is 17-for-58 since ASB with ten walks.
SS Cito Culver: 0-for-3, BB, K
CF Jake Cave: 0-for-5, 2 K
2B Angelo Gumbs: 1-for-4, K
1B Matt Snyder: 2-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, K
RHP Luis Severino: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
1.62 ERA; 16.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 20 K since promotion. Second consecutive game where he didn't allow a run over six innings (Last time out, he didn't allow a hit either). He now has 90 strikeouts in 84.1 IP between Charleston/Tampa. Oh, and he is also 20 years old, can hit the mid-to-upper 90s with his fastball and has an excellent change. The downside is his size (listed at only 6'0"). One more tidbit: The Yankees went on an international spending spree (to put it mildly) on Wednesday. When they signed Severino, the bonus was a modest $225,000. That investment has likely produced the best overall pitching prospect in the system at the moment.
RHP Cesar Vargas: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
This effort, combined with bad defense, ruined Severino's win.
