Yankees Minor League Report 4/11/14: Tyler Austin Plays Third in Trenton Loss

Scranton:
Postponed for the third time this season.

Trenton (Lost to Erie, 5-4)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-5
6-game hitting streak.  Hitting .370 (10-for-27) overall
3B/OF Tyler Austin:  2-for-5, 2 K, E (1)
Actually played third base tonight, where he played earlier in his career.   I doubt this is a permanent move, but the Yankees are obviously more in need for infield help than outfield help.
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-5, K
Have to love early season batting averages - dropped from .276 to .235.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-5, 2B (3), 2 RS, 2 K
Has now struck out 13 times (only one walk) in 7 games.  Last year, he posted a 84/82 BB/K ratio.
OF Ben Gamel: 1-for-4, RS, BB, K
OF Taylor Dugas:  2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, K
29th career extra base hit (177 games)
IF Zach Wilson:  1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB

RHP Zach Nuding (L, 0-1):  5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
I think his future will be as a bullpen arm, but there is never anything wrong with keeping a pitcher stretched out as a starter for as long as possible.
RHP Jairo Heredia: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K to start the season
RHP Cole Kimball:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
No truth to the rumor that the Yankees are planning to change his name to "Craig Kimbrel" in an attempt to trick hitters.

Tampa (Defeated Daytona, 5-1)

C Pete O'Brien: 1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS
Business as usual.    Hopefully, he gets to Trenton by his 24th birthday (7/15), but there is a catching logjam at the moment.
3B Eric Jagielo:  1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
5-game hitting streak.  He has struck out 12 times in eight games, but has also driven in 10 runs.
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-3, 2B (4), RS, BB
He has turned into Rickey Henderson all of a sudden (eight walks in eight games).  Not much to say about Bichette - we have been teased before.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4, 2 K
7-for-35
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, RS
Hitting .176 (6-for-34)
1B Reymond Nunez:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 E (5)
I think the errors are the story - five errors for a first baseman in seven games?
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, RS

RHP Rafael DePaula (W, 1-1):  5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
This is the DePaula that terrorized the Sally League early in 2013.  One game doesn't mean that DePaula is back, of course.
RHP Kyle Haynes:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
-----------------------
Charleston (Lost to Augusta, 8-1)

SS Tyler Wade:  0-for-2, 3 BB, K
4-for-25 to begin his season with five walks
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K
6-for-28 with eight walks
3B Miguel Andujar: 0-for-3, BB
OF Michael O'Neill: 0-for-3, RS, BB, SB (5)
5-for-5 SB this year; 9-for-17 last year.  4-for-30 at the plate.
CF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-4, 2 K
2B Gosuke Katoh: 0-for-4, 4 K
Eeeeeeeek
IF John Murphy:  2-for-4, RBI, SB (2)

RHP Giovanny Gallegos (L, 0-2):  4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Entering this season, he walked 16 batters in 92.1 career innings.  22-year old getting first taste of a full-season league
RHP Andy Beresford:  2.2 IP,3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Jordan Cote:  1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
