Yankees Minor League Report 8/1/13: Dellin Betances Continues His Run; Pete O'Brien Homers; Greg Bird Walks, Doesn't Fly

Scranton:  (Defeated Indianapolis, 2-1, in 12 innings)

David Adams:  3-for-6, RBI - Raises average to .301 with Scranton.
Ronnier Mustelier:  2-for-6
JR Murphy:  1-for-5, 2B (14), RS - He has become quite the iron man behind the plate.
Thomas Neal:  3-for-5 - Hitting .325 here.  Cup of coffee in majors.
Dan Johnson:  2-for-6

Caleb Cotham: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K - Not many solid performances like this in 2013 for Cotham.    Has a 6.26 ERA in 64.2 innings for Scranton with a 47/26 K/BB ratio.  His calling card has been a strong GB/FB rate (2.87 in 28 IP for Trenton earlier this year; 1.31 for Scranton entering this game)
Dellin Betances:  2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (3.09 ERA; 70 IP, 45 H, 24 R, 24 ER, 2 HR, 36 BB, 84 K) - Has been pretty much unhittable as a reliever.
----------------------
Trenton (Lost to Harrisburg, 3-1)

Andrew Clark:  1-for-3, RBI, BB - .285 in 137 AB with 15 XBH.
Jose Pirela:  1-for-3, RS
Ramon Flores:  1-for-4, 2 K - 10 hits in last 37 AB.
Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, 2 K

Matt Tracy (L, 4-5):  3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K - First start since 6/12.  Has a 5.51 ERA in 63.2 innings with a 60/37 K/BB ratio.
Jeremy Bleich:  4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K (2.72 ERA; 56.1 IP, 47 H, 23 R, 17 ER, 1 HR, 35 BB, 46 K) - Decent season overall, but nothing that inspires much confidence.
Tom Kahnle:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K - Here is hoping in 10 years everyone writes about how Amaro wouldn't deal Michael Young for Tom Kahnle.    Has a 2.31 ERA in 46.2 innings with a 54/30 K/BB ratio.
----------------------------
Tampa (Lost to St. Lucie, 10-4)

Pete O'Brien:  1-for-4, HR (7), RBI, RS, 2 K - .285/.305/.507 in 144 AB for Tampa with 45 Ks.   Can he sustain a high batting average with such an extreme strikeout rate?  Not likely as he moves up.
Gary Sanchez:  1-for-4 - 6-for-39 slide.
Mason Williams:  1-for-5 - Pretty much holding steady since an extended hot streak.
Robert Refsnyder:  0-for-4
Saxon Butler:  2-for-4, 2B (12), 2 RBI, RS - Had a big start to his career in 2012 for Staten Island; hasn't done anything since.
Taylor Dugas:  0-for-4, RS
Dan Fiorito:  1-for-4, 2B (9), RS

Dietrich Enns (L, 0-5):  2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 2 HR - ERA jumps from 4.22 to 6.09 since joining Tampa.  Three straight clunkers after a huge start to his season - I think it has a lot to do with his shift to the rotation - it may be catching up to him.   Still owns a 107/32 K/BB ratio over 78.1 innings between Charleston/Tampa.
Charley Short:  2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K - 2.17 ERA for Tampa with a 51/8 K/BB ratio over 37.1 innings.
------------------
Charleston (Lost to Augusta, 5-4 - Lost the completion of a suspended game, 2-0.  The numbers below represent the regularly scheduled game only)

Greg Bird:  0-for-2, RBI, 2 BB - 0-for-10 in last four games, but he has walked six times.     Has 77 walks in 99 games.
Jake Cave:  1-for-4 - 15 hits in last 35 AB.  Has been on fire and has earned his way to Tampa for 2014.
Cito Culver:  0-for-3, RS, BB - 6 hits in last 40 AB
Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, RBI, RS
Reymond Nunez:  2-for-4, RBI - Second year at level has produced greatly enhanced results.   That really isn't much of anything to brag about.
Ty Afenir:  1-for-2, RS, BB, CS (1)

Brett Gerritse:  5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (4.00 ERA; 72 IP, 69 H, 36 R, 32 ER, 0 HR, 28 BB, 77 K) -  Has allowed 8 career HR in 256.1 innings.

Derek Toadvine:  1-for-4, 2B (4)
Jose Rosario:  0-for-3, BB, SB (4) - .275/.306/.330 in 91 AB.
Isaias Tejada:  2-for-4, RS
