Yankees Minor League Report 8/3/13: Jose Pirela & Greg Bird Both Homer; David Pallidino Tosses Five Scoreless

Scranton (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 5-1)

David Adams: 1-for-4 - .306.  Mini 4-game hitting streak.
Dan Johnson:  3-for-3, HR (18), RBI, RS, BB
Ronnier Mustelier:  1-for-4, 2B (13)

Sam Demel:  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K (1.43 ERA; 37.2 IP, 25 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 HR, 16 BB, 46 K)
Cesar Cabral:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K - Triple-A Debut.   Had a 5.49 ERA for Trenton before his promotion, but was throwing much better as of late (2.45 ERA in his last 10 games for Trenton with a 11/5 K/BB ratio over 11 innings)   Should be in the 2014 bullpen mix.
----------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Reading, 7-5)

Jose Pirela:  2-for-4, HR (7), 3 RBI, RS - 10 RBI in last 10 games.  Modest 5-game hitting streak.  Overall, his season has gone very well after a tough start.
Slade Heathcott:  1-for-4, 2B (21) - 5-game hitting streak, but is only 8-for-35 in last 10 games.  Still, his second half has been much better than his first.
Ramon Flores:  1-for-5, RBI, RS - Also on a 5-game hitting streak.   Season has gone nowhere, for the most part.
Kyle Roller:  0-for-3, RS, BB
Jose Gil:  3-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, RS - With the Gary Sanchez Era upon us in Trenton, Gil will become his caddy.

Graham Stoneburner:  3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K - He does have a 3.26 ERA for Trenton (19.1 innings), but his season has not been good.    He has only 27 strikeouts (23 walks) in 67.2 innings between Scranton/Trenton this season.
Francisco Rondon:  3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (4.70 ERA; 61.1 IP, 52 H, 43 R, 32 ER, 41 BB, 59 K) - I don't mind stretching out relievers, but I would still like to see Rondon placed into a true 1-inning reliever role to see what he can do.
Dan Burawa:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (3.10 ERA; 52.1 IP, 35 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 34 BB, 53 K) - No walks allowed in last four appearances.  Continues to get stronger as the season has gone along.  (Remember, he missed all of 2012)
----------------------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Ft. Myers, 5-0)

Mason Williams:  1-for-4, 2B (21), 2 K
Robert Refsnyder:  0-for-2, 2 BB - .267/.386/.393 for Tampa with 57 walks in 90 games.
Pete O'Brien: 0-for-4, 2 K
Jose Toussen: 2-for-2, BB - .253/.313/.314 in 194 AB.  Can play just about anywhere; but has never hit very much.

Bryan Mitchell (L, 4-10):  6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K (4.84 ERA; 119 IP, 133 H, 75 R, 64 ER, 5 HR, 46 BB, 103 K) - Too talented to have such a mediocre type of season.  Hasn't been dreadful - but hasn't had a stretch of great starts, either.
-------------------------
Charleston:

Greg Bird:  1-for-7, HR (16), RBI, RS, BB - Walk streak snapped at 7 straight games in Game 1; but we'll take a home run every now and then, right?
Cito Culver:  4-for-9, RS, CS (5) - Hitting .232.  10 hits in last 44 AB.
Jake Cave: 2-for-8, RS, 2 K
Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-8
Ericson Leonora:  4-for-8, 2B (4)
Daniel Aldrich:  2-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, CS (1)

Luis Severino:  4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K - In 34 innings between the GCL and Charleston, he has compiled a 1.32 ERA and a 39/10 K/BB ratio.    Severino is 19 years old.
Ty Webb:  3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (5.06 ERA; 16 IP, 14 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 3 HR, 3 BB, 19 K ) - Has been struggling a bit as of late, so this was much needed.

Cesar Vargas:  6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR (2.96 ERA; 103.1 IP, 79 H, 43 R, 34 ER, 6 HR, 34 BB, 83 K) - Vargas has flown a bit under the radar this season.    The 22-year old has never pitched poorly at any level up to this point, and should easily find himself in Tampa in 2014.
-------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Williamsport, 3-0)

Eric Jagielo:  1-for-3, BB
Bubba Jones:  2-for-4, 2B (12), RS
Trent Garrison: 1-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, RS
Michael O'Neill:  1-for-4, 2B (11), 2 K
Jose Rosario:  1-for-4, 2 RBI, SB (5)

David Palldino (W, 1-2):  5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (4.25 ERA; 29.2 IP, 37 H, 16 R, 14 ER, 3 HR, 15 BB, 30 K) - 6'8" RHP with the best performance of his young career to earn his first win.
Kelvin Castro:  3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K (2.70 ERA; 20 IP, 19 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 HR, 6 BB, 28 K) - Converted IF is doing a good job.
Nick Rumbelow (S, 3):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - 2.25 ERA in 11 games.  Yankees aren't stretching him like they do with some relievers; has thrown more than one inning in 2 of his 11 games.
