Yankees Minor League Report 8/4/13: Gary Sanchez Debuts for Trenton; Ben Gamel Returns from DL

Scranton (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 7-3)

Ronnier Mustelier:  1-for-4, HR (5), RBI, RS - .248/.288/.370 in 238 mostly forgettable AB.
JR Murphy:  0-for-4 - 9-for-39 slide; 1-for-12 in August.  .280/.351/.433 since joining Scranton.
David Adams:  1-for-4, RS - .305/.400/.463 in 164 AB
Randy Ruiz:  2-for-4, RBI
Melky Mesa:  0-for-4, 2 K - 96 K in 66 games.
Adonis Garcia:  2-for-3, RS, BB - .323/.374/.455 in 99 AB.

Brett Marshall (L, 5-9):  5.1 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR (5.45 ERA; 114 IP, 125 H, 78 R, 69 ER, 16 HR, 62 BB, 94 K, 1.51 GO/AO) - Cruised through five; got hit around in the 6th.
Dellin Betances: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - Inherited two of Marshall's runners; both scored.   Bad joba.  Has a 1.54 ERA as a reliever with a 60/20 K/BB ratio over 46.2 innings.
Matt Daley:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (1.85 ERA; 24.1 IP, 14 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 31 K) - 31-year old RHP.
------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Reading, 4-3)

Gary Sanchez:  1-for-3, 2B (1), RBI - Nice start to his Double-A career.
Ramon Flores:  2-for-4, 2B (17), RS, BB - 6-game hitting streak.
Slade Heathcott:  1-for-4, RBI, SB (14) - 6-for-6 SB since a 8-for-16 start.  6-game hitting streak.
Casey Stevenson: 2-for-3, 2B (7), RS, BB - Organizational utility guy has played at three levels this year.
Kyle Roller:  0-for-4
Jose Pirela:  0-for-4

Shane Greene (W, 5-3):  6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 1 HR (124.2 IP, 138 H, 58 R, 47 ER, 9 HR, 21 BB, 110 K) - We talk a lot about prospects who have failed thus far in 2013; Greene is an example of one who has shown significant progress.
Zach Nuding:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K - Looks like the relief move is permanent, at least for the remainder of 2013, if not beyond.
Tom Kahnle (S, 16):  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (2.22 ERA; 48.2 IP, 25 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 30 BB, 57 K) - Overall, a very strong season for Kahnle.  On pure stuff alone, he is a top relief prospect - the walks are a bit too extreme, however.  He doesn't need to cut them down drastically, but he does need to cut them down a bit.
-------------------
Tampa  (Defeated Ft. Myers, 7-6, thanks to a 4-run bottom of the 9th)

Ben Gamel:  2-for-4, RBI, BB, 3 RS, 2 SB (18) - First game since July 18th is a good one.   Hitting .283/.354/.413 in 329 AB with 18 steals in 22 attempts.  Played CF with Mason Williams getting the day off.
Pete O'Brien:  1-for-4, 2B (10), BB, K - .276/.299/.487 for Tampa; .303/.354/.550 in 350 AB overall.  Has 33 doubles between the two levels.
Taylor Dugas:  1-for-4, RS, BB, SB (4) - .243/.352/.291 in 103 AB since joining Tampa.
Tyson Blaser:  1-for-3, 2B (2), 2 RBI - Looks like his time behind the plate will increase with the promotion of Sanchez combined with the need to get O'Brien consistent reps at third base.
Ali Castillo: 1-for-5, 2B (4), 2 RBI, RS

Rafael DePaula:  4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 5 K (6.25 ERA; 31.2 IP, 34 H, 23 R, 22 ER, 2 HR, 19 BB, 36 K) - This is about as ugly as it has been for DePaula all season.    ERA overall has ballooned over 4.00 (4.03).  Has a 132/42 K/BB ratio over 96 total innings.
------------------
Charleston:  (Lost to Augusta, 6-5)

Jake Cave:  2-for-4, 2 2B (29), RS, BB - .284/.346/.409 in 359 AB.  .314/.385/.440 in 159 AB since ASB.    Nice year.
Greg Bird:  1-for-3, 2B (27), 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 K - .286/.418/.505 in 370 AB.  Has 81 walks (109 K) in 103 games played.    .295/.437/.582 in 146 AB since ASB.   He will enter Tampa in 2014 at a very young age and will be an early prospect to watch.
Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, 2B (9), RS, BB - .264/.312/.438 since being demoted from Tampa.
Ericson Leonora:  2-for-5, 2 RBI
Cito Culver:  0-for-4, RS, BB - .229/.313/.349.  Last year for Charleston:  .215/.321/.283.   There has been a bit of improvement, but not nearly enough.

Evan Rutckyj:  5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, HR (4.53 ERA; 105.1 IP, 114 H, 62 R, 53 ER, 8 HR, 50 BB, 94 K, 1.30 GO/AO) - This follows perhaps the most brilliant performance of his career (7 scoreless innings last time out)
-------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Williamsport, 2-0)

Brandon Thomas:  2-for-4, 2B (6) - .226/.347/.329 - The ability to take walks is nice, at least.
Michael O'Neill: 1-for-4, 2 K
Bubba Jones:  1-for-3, BB - .296/.368/.407 in 135 AB.  I assume he will find his way to Charleston in 2014 to take Bird's place.

Caleb Smith:  4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K - 2.67 ERA with 39/8 K/BB ratio over 33.2 innings.
22-year old LHP.
