Yankees Minor League Report 8/13/13: JR Murphy Goes Yard; Ramon Flores' Hitting Streak Hits 13; Robert Refsnyder Scorching Again; Cito Culver's Tampa Debut

Scranton  (Defeated Charlotte, 7-1)

JR Murphy:  2-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS, BB - It would be justified if he slumped the rest of the season; instead, he has a mini 4-game hitting streak (6-for-14).  Home run was his 10th of the season between Trenton/Scranton.
Melky Mesa: 0-for-5, RBI
Ronnier Mustelier:  1-for-4, RBI
David Adams:  1-for-3, 2B (11), RBI, RS - Hitting .305.  6-game hitting streak.
Randy Ruiz:  3-for-4, 2 2B (12), RBI, RS
Corey Patterson:  3-for-5, HR (4), RBI, 2 RS, SB (4) - Only hitting .195.

Caleb Cotham:  5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K (105.2 IP, 118 H, 65 R, 60 ER, 42 BB, 75 K) - His calling card is a strong GO/FO ratio (1.73 entering this game).  Other than that, he hasn't been all that good.
Cesar Cabral: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - Has struck out 8 in 5.1 innings since joining Scranton and 35 in 32 innings overall.    ERA is bloated, but he is coming off of an injury.  Intriguing 2014 arm.
Sam Demel (S, 3):  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (1.50 ERA; 42 IP, 29 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 17 BB, 51 K)
--------------------------
Trenton:  (Defeated Harrisburg, 8-2)

Ramon Flores:  2-for-4, 2B (19), 2 RBI, RS, BB - Hitting streak is now at 13.   Has a hit in 22 of his last 26 contests,   Overall average has risen up to .256.  In other words, Ramon Flores is on quite a tear.
Gary Sanchez:  1-for-5, RS - 6-game hitting streak since joining Trenton (7-for-25) with four doubles.
Jose Pirela: 1-for-3, 2B (19), RBI, RS, BB - Hitting .259 for Trenton with more walks (49) than strikeouts (48).
Kyle Roller:  1-for-4, RBI, RS
Saxon Butler:  2-for-4, 2B (1), 4 RBI, RS - 3-for-16 since joining Trenton.
Carmen Angelini:  1-for-3, 2 RS, BB - Only hitting .200 at this level.

Jeremy Bleich:  5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K (2.76 ERA; 65.1 IP, 57 H, 27 R, 20 ER, 1 HR, 39 BB, 57 K) - Overall, a pretty good season for the 26-year old LHP.
Francisco Rondon:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K (4.45 ERA; 64.2 IP, 53 H, 43 R, 32 ER, 6 HR, 43 BB, 67 K) - The walks obviously aren't ideal, and he hasn't cut down on them since moving back to the bullpen.   Still remains quite intriguing.
-------------------------
Tampa: (Defeated Brevard County, 7-3)

Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-3, 2B (25), 2 RBI, RS - 6-for-7 in his last two games.    14-for-38 in August with 9 walks.    With an OBP and SLG above .400 and 20 steals on top of that, Refsnyder has established himself as a legitimate offensive prospect.
Mason Williams:  1-for-5, RBI, RS, SB (15) - 7 hits in last 44 AB.
Cito Culver:  2-for-4, 2B (1) - Nice Tampa debut for the 20-year old shortstop.   Hit .232/.312/.344 in 410 AB for Charleston.
Ben Gamel: 0-for-4, BB - 6-for-35 since returning from DL.
Pete O'Brien: 0-for-4, BB, 3 K - Up to 118 strikeouts in 378 AB.
Matt Snyder:  1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB - 10-for-64 since joining Tampa.
Taylor Dugas: 2-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 CS (4), PO

Scottie Allen (W, 10-5):  6 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K (118 IP, 111 H, 51 R, 45 ER, 9 HR, 35 BB, 77 K)
Ben Paullus: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K - High-A debut for the 23-year old RHP.    Had a 2.54 ERA in 32 games for Charleston with a 60/26 K/BB ratio over 60.1 innings.   19th round pick in 2011.
Charley Short:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
-------------------
Charleston (Defeated Lexington, 2-1)

Jake Cave:  1-for-2, 2B (30), RBI, BB, SAC, SB (14) - The Yankees have the makings of a decent prospect "pipeline" in center from Heathcott to Williams to Cave.
Greg Bird:  0-for-3, BB - Now has 87 walks in 111 games.
Dante Bichette:  0-for-3, BB - First game since 7/27.  11 hits in last 39 AB.
Ericson Leonora:  1-for-4, 2B (6) - 25-for-75 (.333) since joining Charleston.
Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-4

Brett Gerritse:  6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K (3.43 ERA; 84 IP, 77 H, 38 R, 32 ER, 0 HR, 28 BB, 91 K) - That is an impressive home run total.  As I mentioned previously, the 22-year old RHP has never had a poor season since joining the organization in 2009 out of high school (12th round)
Derek Varnadore (W, 1-5):  3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K (3.30 ERA; 46.2 IP, 47 H, 21 R, 16 ER, 1 HR, 16 BB, 37 K) - On a list of top right-handed relief prospects in the system, Varnadore wouldn't register very high.
