Yankees Minor League Report 5/13/14: Luis Severino Continues to Impress in Charleston Loss

Scranton (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 8-4)

1B/OF Ramon Flores:  1-for-5, 2 K, CS (2)
Played CF tonight.   8-for-42 slide probably has come at a bad time, given some of the injuries in the majors and his 40-man status.
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K
3-for-14 since promotion.  Has 10 HR and 25 RBI in 92 AB this season.
SS Dean Anna:  3-for-4, RS, BB, E (5)
Errors don't tell the whole story, but five is a lot for the amount of time he has been down here.  That said, tonight's was a fluke - an interference call.
OF Adonis Garcia:  3-for-4, RBI
2B Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, RS
Moved to LF late in the game, but as I have said before, the Yankees seemingly abandoned the idea of trying to make him a super-utility guy last year.
C Austin Romine:  0-for-4, K

RHP Zach Nuding (L, 1-2):  3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Two of his three starts since his promotion have been atrocious.
RHP Jose Ramirez: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Still getting himself back into rhythm - third game back since DL stint.
RHP Danny Burawa: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
First game since 4/17.  7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 12 K this season
-----------------------------
Trenton (Lost to Erie, 5-1)

C Gary Sanchez:  1-for-3, BB, K
2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-4
15-for-46 in May with only three strikeouts (to be completely fair, he has also only walked once).
C/RF Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, RBI
Nine RBI in four games
1B/RF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-3, RS, BB, E (4)
20/15 BB/K ratio
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-2, 2 BB, K
Has walked 11 times (to go along with 11 hits) in last ten games.
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-4, 2 K
Turning into the CF version of Cito Culver.  Defense is well above average, but just not hitting at all.  Down to .188 in 144 AB.
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-4

LHP Jeremy Bleich (L, 3-3):  7 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR
4.36 ERA; 43.1 IP, 43 H, 26 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 11 BB, 32 K.  I don't put too much stock into any of this.  For one, Bleich likely doesn't have a future.  For another, if he DID have a future, it would likely be as a short reliever.
RHP Taylor Garrison:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
2.89 ERA in 18.2 IP with 12/10 K/BB ratio.
LHP Aaron Dott:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
-----------------------------------------------
Tampa (Defeated St. Lucie, 7-2, thanks to a 6-run 9th inning.  At least one team in the organization treats the Mets like the...well, Mets)

3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-5, 2B (11), 2 RBI, 2 RS
.293/.393/.455 in 123 AB.   Only 9-for-39 in May, however.
1B Greg Bird:  2-for-4, RS, BB, K
9-for-22 since coming off DL
CF Jake Cave: 2-for-4, RS, BB, CS (3)
.303/.346/.408 in 152 AB.  Needs to work on base stealing (18-for-27 last year; 3-for-6 this year)
1B Matt Snyder:  2-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, K
Bird is the much bigger prospect - but it is nice to have another first baseman on the roster so that Bird can take a breather or two coming off of a back injury (and his history overall of back problems)
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, 2B (5), BB, 2 K
.235/.262/.309 in 136 AB.  Five walks, 35 strikeouts.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4, BB, 3 K
.198/.262/.237 in 131 AB
OF Zach Wilson: 3-for-4, RS, BB, K
OF Anderson Feliz: 1-for-4, 3 K
First hit of the season.   (1-for-15 with 8 Ks)
OF Claudio Custodio:  0-for-0, RS, 2 SB (9)
Custodio's bat has never come around, which is unfortunate because he has well above average speed.   He is 80-for-88 in his career stealing bases.

RHP Nick Goody:  1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Rehab stint continues.  (All three of his appearances since coming back from TJS have been quick starts).  Once he is back in the groove, he'll move back to his customary bullpen spot.
LHP Eric Wooten: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
2.81 ERA; 41.2 IP, 44 H, 18 R, 13 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 27 K, 1.47 GO/AO
RHP Phil Wetherell:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
24-year old has a 0.63 ERA in 14.1 IP with six walks, 13 strikeouts, and 3.25 GO/AO, which is a bit insane (and not sustainable)
LHP James Pezos:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Pitching really well as of late, though early season struggles made his numbers suffer:  4.32 ERA; 16.2 IP, 17 H, 0 HR, 5 BB, 20 K
-----------------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Savannah, 8-4)

OF Aaron Judge:  3-for-5, 2B (4), RBI, RS, 2 K
The power has not completely shown up yet, but he has shown why he is considered such a good all around prospect.  Should probably be bumped up to Tampa sooner rather than later.
SS Tyler Wade:  2-for-5, 2B (5), RS, K
Hitting a tad better lately (four multi-hit games in last six games played)
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4, 2B (8), 2 RBI, K, E (11)
2B Gosuke Katoh:  0-for-3, BB
OF Michael O'Neill:  1-for-3, RS, SAC, BB
10 K in last 38 AB.  This is actually an improvement, folks.
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K
I am a sucker for a good story, and there aren't many better good stories than non-drafted FAs succeeding a bit.

RHP Luis Severino:  6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
1.95 ERA; 37 IP, 33 H, 11 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 38 K.  Let us skip all of this development bullshit and put him in the rotation as the #2 starter!  Who's with me?
RHP Andury Acevedo:  0.2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Has 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.   Great!  Has 12 walks, has allowed 13 hits, and 11 runs.  OK, not so great.
RHP Philip Walby:  0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
Who do you think you are, Alfredo Aceves?
RHP Cesar Vargas:  2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
1.33 ERA; 20.1 IP, 17 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 25 K.   The 22-year old pitched well at this level last year, before pitching horribly in Tampa upon being promoted.  The fact he is repeating here is never a good sign, but he is a decent prospect.
