Yankees Minor League Report 7/10/13: Betances is Cruising; Gamel is Hitting; Enns Doesn't Allow a Hit

Scranton (Lost to Rochester, 5-1)

Derek Jeter:  0-for-3, K, E - Hitting .111.  Before they bring him up to the show, I would highly consider a position change.
JR Murphy:  1-for-3 -  Hitting .308 in 78 AB since his promotion.
Dan Johnson: 0-for-1, 2 BB
Adonis Garcia:  1-for-3, 2B (1), RS - 5-for-14.  Three of the five hits have gone for extra bases.
Thomas Neal:  1-for-3 - Hitting .324.
Addison Maruszak:  0-for-3
Fernando Martinez:  0-for-4
Randy Ruiz:  0-for-4

Jose Ramirez:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR -  Threw 56 pitches, only 25 of which were strikes.    Has a 4.24 ERA for Scranton (23.1 IP, 18 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 18 BB, 23 K).  His control has escaped him.
Dellin Betances:   2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (3.75 ERA; 57.2 IP, 39 H, 24 R, 24 ER, 2 HR, 28 BB, 68 K) - Hasn't allowed a run in his last eight appearances, covering 13 innings.    Has a 21/4 K/BB ratio over that time span.    And I read a post on a different blog about the Yankees potentially needing to acquire relief help?  That is the last thing this franchise needs.
-----------------------------------
Tampa:  (Lost to Dunedin, 5-2)

Ben Gamel:  3-for-4, 2 2B (24), 2 RS, SB (16) - .288/.358/.424 in 302 AB.    21-for-66 since ASB with 8 XBH and 13 RBI.    He won't turn 22 until May of next year, as it seems highly likely he will be in Trenton.  Will he be able to break through the upper minors?
Pete O'Brien:  1-for-3, 2B (3), RBI - .254/.266/.492 in 59 AB for Tampa; .308/.366/.589 in 253 AB overall.
Gary Sanchez:   0-for-3, BB - .266/.329/.471 in 289 AB
Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-4 - .279/.394/.405 in 247 AB for Tampa.  5-for-36 in last 10 games.

Dietrich Enns:  5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K (1.60 ERA; 62 IP, 35 H, 15 R, 11 ER, 0 HR, 21 BB, 90 K between Charleston/Tampa)   Enns has been incredible this season - a pitcher who wasn't really being groomed for starting that forced his way into the rotation.  He threw up a clunker two starts ago, but rebounded pretty well the last time out before this dominating performance.  One of the major surprises of 2013.
--------------
Charelston (Defeated Greenville, 3-2)

Cito Culver:  2-for-5, 2B (15) - Has raised his average to .231.    Has 12 hits in his last 36 AB (.333) with five doubles and a home run.   Fingers crossed?
Greg Bird:  0-for-3, 2 BB - One of the walks was intentional.   Reasoning is simple:  Dante Bichette hits after him.  Bird hasn't exactly been playing well himself lately (3 hits in last 38 AB)
Jake Cave:  1-for-4, SAC, K - Hitting .269 in 271 AB.
Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-3, RS, BB - 15-for-57 since his demotion.
Dante Bichette:  0-for-4 - Back down to .199.    For some reason, I am amused by his 'chase for .200")

Luis Niebla:   6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR - Tough overall season for Niebla in his first taste of full-season ball.  Sports a 5.83 ERA over 54 IP.   Throws a fastball, curve, changeup, and slider - supposedly the Yankees took away the slider, but I am not sure if that was a permanent move.  He throws in the low-to-mid 90s.  Not one of those big, projectible arms you hear about - but he is a solid prospect.
Ty Webb:   2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K -   Webb has struck out 18 in his first 10 professional innings with only three walks.
--------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Lowell, 2-1)

Bubba Jones:  1-for-3, RBI - 16-for-69 with 10 runs batted in.
Michael O'Neill:  1-for-4 - .280 in 82 AB with five doubles and a triple.
Eric Jagielo:  1-for-4 - 8-for-25
Brandon Thomas:  0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP - Continues to get on base (16 walks in 20 games), but is only hitting .203.
Kale Sumner:  1-for-4, 3 K - .319 in 69 AB.  18 strikeouts.
John Murphy:  0-for-4 - Hitting .215.

Rookie Davis:  4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K - 16/6 K/BB ratio over 19 IP.    Has allowed 9 runs (6 earned) on 22 hits.
