Yankees Minor League Report 7/15/13: Mason Williams Surging; Dietrich Enns Dominating; Dante Bichette Hits Another HR; Bubba Jones Hits First Career HR

Trenton (Defeated Reading, 6-4)

Ramon Flores:  2-for-4, RS, BB, CS (6) - Another interesting point on Flores:  He is only 5-for-11 stealing bases.  He isn't necessarily a speed demon, but his stolen base rates are generally good. (24-for-33 last season).     5-for-20 since ASB.
Slade Heathcott:  1-for-5, RBI, RS - 17-for-48 in July.    Hitting .255.
Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, 2B (17), 2 RBI, BB -   Continues his hitting ways.  12-game hitting streak.  18-for-43 in July with five doubles.
Andrew Clark:  2-for-5, RS - Hitting .294 (25-for-85).   11-for-46 in July.
Carmen Angelini:  1-for-4 - 20-for-92 since promotion.
Cody Grice:  1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, SB (4) - Bouncing around the minors, going wherever the Yankees need him to be.  33-for-149 between Tampa/Trenton/Scranton.  12-for-13 stealing bases.

Nik Turley:  6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR (4.45 ERA; 89 IP, 79 H, 47 R, 44 ER, 10 HR, 43 BB, 96 K) - A bit of an uneven year for Turley.  Not a terrible season - strong strikeout rate.   Too many walks, however.
Danny Burawa (W, 3-2):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (3.65 ERA; 44.1 IP, 34 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 31 BB, 44 K) - Obviously, he is a bit wild - but he also has a strong power arsenal.  Missed all of 2012, so there is also the factor that he did miss a year of development time.
Tom Kahnle (S, 11):  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K (2.68 ERA; 40.1 IP, 23 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 4 HR, 25 BB, 45 K) - Obviously, it isn't often that he gives up more than one hit in any outing.   After an extended stretch of good control, he has walked 10 in his last 10 appearances.

Tampa:

This game is in the 18th inning as of this typing.   I can't stay awake much longer waiting for it to end, so I am going to report what I know...which means something dramatic is going to happen in the 53rd inning.

Mason Williams:  3-for-7, 2B (17), BB -  All the way up to .270.  16 hits in his last 41 AB.    23-for-60 since the ASB.  This is the Williams we were all expecting to see.
Pete O'Brien:  3-for-8, 2B (5) -  Now hitting .295 for Tampa with 9 XBH in 20 games.  Overall, a fantastic offensive season for O'Brien.  His tendency to strike out and not walk much leads to some hesitation as he moves to the next level.
Gary Sanchez:  1-for-6, BB
Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-7, RS, SB (10) - 17-for-19 overall stealing bases this season.
Ben Gamel: 1-for-8, 4 K - That's not good for your batting average.
Taylor Dugas:  1-for-6, BB
Saxon Butler:  3-for-6, 2 2B (10), RBI - Rough season for Butler, who put up a .878 OPS in 227 AB in 2012 after being drafted in the 33rd round.  Hitting .256 this season with four home runs in 160 AB for Tampa.

Dietrich Enns:  6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K - In 68 innings between Charleston/Tampa, he has allowed 37 hits with a 95/22 K/BB ratio.    He has yet to allow a home run in his career (110.2 IP).   There really isn't much more to say about him, other than hoping he can continue to do this the rest of this season and beyond.
Taylor Garrison:  1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K - In 38.1 innings between Charleston/Tampa, he has allowed 21 hits while striking out 38 while walking 9.
Charley Short:  2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K - 2.60 ERA with 39/6 K/BB ratio over 27.2 innings for Tampa.
----------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Augusta, 8-5)

Dante Bichette:  2-for-3, HR (7), RBI, 3 RS, BB - Second HR in two days.   Average back over .200 (.201).
Cito Culver:  1-for-4, 2B (17), RBI, BB - 7 doubles in his last 8 games.   22-for-85 since ASB, which represents a big improvement.
Greg Bird:  0-for-4, BB - Ends 3-game HR streak.  4 HR and 8 walks in last 10 games.
Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-4, RS, BB, SB (6) - 19-for-76 (.250) since demotion.  13-for-44 in July.
Jake Cave:  1-for-3, BB -  Hitting .261 in 284 AB in what has to be considered a nice, though not spectacular, season.
Wes Wilson:  2-for-4, 2 2B (5), 2 RBI, RS - Organizational-type catcher is 10-for-52 on the season.

Luis Niebla (L, 3-5):  4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR - Deuces wild!    He has a 5.74 ERA in 58 innings with a 43/15 K/BB ratio.    Has allowed 8 home runs.
James Pazos:  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K - 4.97 ERA in 12.2 innings.    Has been getting torched lately (6 runs in 3.1 innings over 3 previous appearances), so this is a nice bounce back.  22-year old LHP.
--------------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Auburn, 7-4)

Eric Jagielo:  2-for-4, K - Hitting .350 (14-for-40) since joining Staten Island.  40 AB is meaningless, but you know everyone in the universe would be wondering what was wrong with him if he started 4-for-40.
Bubba Jones:  3-for-5, 2B (7), HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 RS - About time a player named Bubba hits his first career HR!   Only took 233 AB to accomplish (.271/.344/.388)
Michael O'Neill: 2-for-5, 2B (8) - 10-game hitting streak (15-for-47).    He hasn't walked in those 10 games, but who's complaining?
Brandon Thomas:  1-for-4, RS - 8-for-39 slump, though he does have a 4-game hitting streak.
Kale Sumner:  2-for-3, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB - Hitting .309/.394/.432 in 81 AB.  Nice start for Sumner, as it is unlikely I would be reporting on him if he was off to a bad start.  He just didn't come out of the draft as a big prospect.
Derek Toadvine:  0-for-4, RS, BB

Rookie Davis (W, 2-1):  5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K - 2.25 ERA in 24 innings with a 19/8 K/BB ratio.   Strong GO/AO rate.    He is a legit, albeit a bit raw, prospect.   20 years old.
Andy Beresford:  2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K - 1.80 ERA in 10 innings with a 8/3 K/BB
Stefan Lopez (S, 1):  1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - 16th round pick in 2012.   Has 17/4 K/BB ratio over 16 IP.    Pitched at this same level last year.
