Yankees Minor League Report 7/11/13: Michael Pineda Roughed Up; Dan Camarena Continues to Dominate

Scranton (Lost to Syracuse, 7-1)

Randy Ruiz:  1-for-4, HR (10), RBI, RS, 2 K - Hitting .286 with 10 home runs in 105 at-bats.  Not too shabby.
David Adams: 1-for-4, 3B (2) - Second game since being demoted.   Hitting .302 for Scranton.
Brent Lillibridge:  1-for-3
Adonis Garcia:  2-for-4
JR Murphy:  0-for-4 - 24-for-82 since promotion.
Fernando Martinez:  1-for-4 - Hitting .315.

Michael Pineda:  4.2 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR, 2 HBP - This is why Pineda needs to stay down here.  The bad thing is that if the Yankees had a need in their rotation like they have in their lineup, they may have just rushed Pineda.  That's been the 2013 theme.
Chase Whitley:  2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (3.93 ERA; 34.1 IP, 35 H, 15 R, 15 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 33 K) - Whitley has been on fire (9.1 scoreless innings over last 4 appearances) and would be a perfectly acceptable candidate to replace Joba.  Of course, Betances would be too.
-----------------------------
Trenton (Lost to New Britain, 2-0.  Who do they think they are, the Yankees?)

Slade Heathcott:  1-for-4 - Hitting streak has reached double digits.  14-for-36 during that streak as he continues to climb out of his early hole.
Tyler Austin:  1-for-4 - Hitting .257.  6 hits in last 36 AB; displaying nothing that resembles power.
Andrew Clark:  1-for-4 - Hitting .304.
Ramon Flores:  0-for-4 - Down to .238/.333/.327 in what is one of the most disappointing 2013 campaigns.  If there was one thing I was convinced with when it came to Flores, it was his ability to hit.  I wasn't sure where he would play in the field, and if he would have enough power be ideal in a corner spot.  But average and OBP?  I thought he would have that covered.
Carmen Angelini:  1-for-3, BB - House money.  That is what they are playing with when it comes to Angelini.
Jose Pirela:  2-for-4 - .259/.356/.397 in 290 AB.  9-game hitting streak (14-for-31).  Four consecutive 2-hit games.  I can go on and on.

Mikey O'Brien:  5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K - ERA sits at 3.60 for Trenton with a 48/28 K/BB ratio over 65 IP.    I am not sure exactly what they have here.  Upside isn't big, but what he is now may just translate into some major league success.  Not sure if that will be in the Bronx...
-------------------
Tampa:

DH rained out.  Par for the course.  I think they can play a sept-header tomorrow and would still have games to make up.  Perhaps that is just perception and not reality...
-------------------
Charleston (Defeated Greenville, 3-1)

Cito Culver:  1-for-4, 3B (2), RBI, K - Hitting .231/.317/.369 in what is slowly becoming an acceptable, though not overwhelming, season.    He has raised his OPS 82 points over last year's number thanks to a bit of a power surge (24 XBH in 290 AB this year; 22 in 466 AB last year)
Jake Cave:  0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, HBP, SB (8) - .267/.322/.399 in 273 AB.  On the surface, not a season you would think too highly of.  But his experience entering 2013 consisted of 1 GCL AB....2 years ago.  (Missed 2012 due to knee injury).  Cave's season has been encouraging.
Greg Bird:  0-for-2, 2 BB  - .267/.393/.445 - You have to like the ability to take a few walks when he is slumping, but the slump is deep (2-for-26 in July)   He has a .671 home OPS compared to a 1.006 number on the road.
Angelo Gumbs:  2-for-4, 3B (2), RBI - 12 hits in last 35 AB with 5 XBH and 5 walks.
Dante Bichette:  1-for-4, 2B (10), RS

Dan Camarena (W, 2-3):  6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (4.58 ERA; 70.2 IP, 68 H, 43 R, 36 ER, 6 HR, 14 BB, 46 K) - This was the first run he allowed since June 11th.     He made 4 appearances between then and tonight.  20-year old LHP has gone from a lost and confused soul to a dominating presence over the course of the season:
April:  9.00 ERA in 17 IP
May:  6.46 ERA in 23.2 IP
June:  0.50 ERA in 18 IP
July:  0.75 ERA in 12 IP
------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Lowell, 1-0, in 10 innings)

Michael O'Neill:  1-for-4 - Hitting .279.
Eric Jagielo:  0-for-2, BB, HBP - 8-for-27 with three walks and three Ks.
Brandon Thomas:  0-for-4, 2 K - Down to .192.
John Murphy:  0-for-4, SB (2) - Hitting .203.
Kale Sumner:  1-for-4

David Palladino:  4 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K - Has a 4.02 ERA over 15.2 innings with a 13/6 K/BB ratio.  6'8" RHP should be interesting to watch.
Cale Coshow:  4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K - 2.45 ERA in 14.2 IP with a 14/5 K/BB ratio.  6'5", 260 pound RHP is impossible to lose in the crowd.
