Yankees Minor League Report 7/12/14: Robert Refsnyder Collects Two More Hits; Dante Bichette Extends Streak to 15; Brady Lail Throws Well for Charleston

Scranton (Lost to Rochester, 5-2)

2B/RF Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-3, BB, K, CS (3)
The drama surrounding him now is what position he is playing.  Tonight, he played 2B again.  As for the offense, he is hitting .316 at this level with 23 walks and 26 strikeouts in 33 games.  The stolen base race is really bad this year (8-for-16 between Trenton/Scranton)
UTIL Jose Pirela:  0-for-3, BB
I haven't really looked, but I will assume his 116 hits lead the organization.  (Refsnyder has 114)
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-4, 2 K
28 K and 4 walks in 25 games
C Austin Romine:  1-for-3, RS, BB
14-for-38 in last 11 games
OF Taylor Dugas:  2-for-4, RS, K
Up to .318 in 22 games at this level.
OF Adonis Garcia:  0-for-4
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, 2 K

LHP Nik Turley:  5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K
Best start to date.   You do feel a bit bad for Turley, because his injury likely cost him a chance to pitch for the big club this year.
RHP Danny Burawa: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
5.35 ERA; 35.1 IP, 37 H, 21 R, 21 ER, 22 BB, 48 K
LHP Francisco Rondon (L, 3-1):  0.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
----------------------------
Trenton (Lost to Akron, 5-1)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-4
12-for-36 in July but has yet to homer
CF Mason Williams:  0-for-4, BB
7-for-49 in July.
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-2, BB
Health has always been a concern with Segedin, but he is having a nice season here (he is 25 years old).   40th walk in 74 games.
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-4, K
15-for-44 in July
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  0-for-4, K
8-for-42 in July.  Don't underestimate just how bad this is for the organization - right-handed corner OFs with power are at a premium in the majors right now.  The Yankees thought they had one of their own with Austin, but a wrist injury has seemingly sapped him.
SS Ali Castillo:  1-for-3, RBI, K

LHP Dan Camarena (L, 0-2):  3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR
Has pitched well in 16 starts for Tampa; two starts here have not been so good.  I am a bit bullish on Camarena, but his type (command guy) can sometimes run into brick walls when they started facing advanced bats.
LHP Cesar Cabral:  3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Phil Wetherell:   3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
--------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Bradenton, 4-3)

3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-4, 2 RBI
Hitting streak has reached 15 games (20-for-61).   He has driven in 15 runs during the streak and has 55 RBI in 88 games.
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-2, 2 BB, K
Now has 58 walks in 87 games between Charleston/Tampa (19 in 22 games for Tampa)
1B Greg Bird:  1-for-5, 2B (18), 2 K
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-5, 2B (17), 2 K
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, SF, SB (10)
2B Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-3, BB

LHP Conner Kendrick (L, 3-6);  5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
5.47 ERA: 49.1 IP, 63 H, 33 R, 30 ER, 1 HR, 21 BB, 37 K
9th rounder in the 2013 draft out of Auburn has obviously not performed well.  Could have a future in a bullpen role.
RHP Nick Rumbelow:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
2.59 ERA; 24.1 IP, 19 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 7 BB, 25 K since joining level.
---------------------
Charleston (Defeated Savannah, 4-1)

2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-3, 2B (13), RS, BB, K
Hitting streak has reached 14 (17-for-48).    He has kept it alive by collecting exactly one hit in ten straight games.   Regardless, for a kid that looked like he was so overmatched that Staten Island was calling his name, he sure has turned it up a million notches.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-4, RS, HBP, K, SB (14)
His playing time at SS will likely start to go down a bit shortly, as Avelino is scheduled to (finally) come back.  When they were together earlier in the season, Wade played some second base in addition to getting reps at shortstop.
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-5, 2B (11), RS, 2 K
.259/.295/.487 in 189 AB.
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4, BB, SB (2), CS (1)
OF Mark Payton:  0-for-5, K
6-for-21 since signing.
OF Michael O'Neill: 1-for-4, BB, K
1B Mike Ford:  2-for-4, 2B (13), 2 RBI, RS, BB

RHP Brady Lail (W, 8-4):  5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
3.71 ERA; 97 IP, 106 H, 46 R, 40 ER, 6 HR, 17 BB, 95 K
20-year old has been very, very solid and is a legitimate prospect
LHP Chaz Hebert:  3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
3.80 ERA; 42.2 IP, 44 H, 23 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 13 BB, 34 K between Charleston/Tampa
LHP Jacob Lindgren (S, 1):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
First professional save.  Has an 11/0 K/BB ratio in five innings since joining level.  And yes - he pulled off the "four strikeouts in one inning" feat tonight.  Still a chance he will be with the big club by season's end.
------------------------------------
Staten Island (Lost to State College, 6-3.  State College is 21-8)

1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-4, 3B (4), 2 RBI, RS, K
Eight triples in 103 career games, but speed is not really his thing (3-for-4 SB in his career)  In any case, Breen is hitting very well this year.
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  2-for-4, K
As stated previously, he is hitting like a college kid should be hitting here.
C Luis Torrens:  1-for-4, RS, K
OF Austin Aune:  2-for-4, 2B (8)
Eight doubles in 24 games is good at least. 34 Ks are not so good.
SS Vince Conde:  0-for-3, SF, RBI
1B Connor Spencer:  2-for-4
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-4, 2 K
C/CF Collin Slaybaugh:  0-for-3, RS, BB

RHP Matt Wotherspoon:  3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
3.65 ERA; 12.1 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 8 K
RHP Conor Mullee: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Joe Harvey:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
