Yankees Minor League Report 7/31/14: All Of These Guys are Still Here? Cashman Failed!

Scranton (Defeated Gwinnett, 8-4)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-5, 2 RBI, RS
Back over .300 at this level (.301).  Been a bit of a yo-yo lately between being over that line and under it.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  3-for-5, 2B (16), 3B (7), 2 RBI, RS
Played LF tonight, where he has played most of the season.  Has appearances at 1B, 2B, SS, LF, and RF.
C John Ryan Murphy:  2-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS
13-for-39 (.333) since ASB as he continues to pick up the pace.
UTIL Adonis Garcia:  1-for-5, RBI, K
C/1B Austin Romine: 1-for-4, 2B (15), K
3B Rob Segedin:  1-for-3, 2 RS, BB
One person all the moving and shaking does affect in the shorter term is Segedin, who isn't a big prospect, but is one step away from the major league roster.  That becomes much less likely with the deadline moves.
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-2, 2 RS, BB
He is most effective when he is drawing those walks and being a pest.

RHP Bruce Billings (W, 5-5):  6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
RHP Matt Daley:  1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Edgmer Escalona:  2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
---------------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Portland, 2-1.   Since Johnny Bench O'Brien is no longer on the team, the scoring is going to go down)

CF Jake Cave: 2-for-4, BB, K
Hitting .357 (20-for-56) at this level and .311/.367/.420 overall in 441 AB.  In case you forgot, this kid is only 21 years old and missed a full season of development in 2012.  Amazing stuff.
C Gary Sanchez:  1-for-4, K
.275/.338/.421 in 349 AB
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-3, BB
Interestingly, the left-handed hitter is showing a reverse split in 2014 (.744 OPS vs. LHP; .668 vs. RHP)
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-4, 2B (14), RS, 2 K
.209/.278/.276 in 406 AB
Honestly, when I was hearing the Colorado rumors, I thought Williams may be on their radar - superb CF defense to cover their vast outfield, and still some offensive potential hidden in here somewhere.

RHP Jaron Long (W, 4-0):  6.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
105 IP, 88 H, 34 R, 26 ER, 4 HR, 15 BB, 95 K between Charleston/Tampa/Trenton
RHP Danny Burawa:  1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Still time for Burawa, but his disaster in Scranton leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.
RHP Mark Montgomery (S, 1):  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
-----------------
Tampa (Lost to Charlotte, 7-3)

OF Aaron Judge:  1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
3B Eric Jagielo:  2-for-4, 2B (11), RBI, 2 K
Both of these guys have done more than enough to start in Trenton in 2015, which will be exciting to see.
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-3, BB, K
.271/.372/.435 in 269 AB
Not to leave Bird out of it - he too will get his Double-A shot in 2015.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-3, BB
2B Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-4, 3 K
As for these two clowns, neither will be protected in the Rule 5 - but neither will likely be drafted.  The Yankees still need depth in the system, so they will likely both be here next year.   But prospect status?  Dwindling very, very quickly.
UTIL Anderson Feliz:  1-for-4, RBI, K

LHP Miguel Sulbaran (L, 2-2):  7 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
2.85 ERA; 91.2 IP, 80 H, 34 R, 29 ER, 3 HR, 24 BB, 67 K
RHP Philip Walby:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
High-A debut.  4.66 ERA in 30 games for Charleston with 51/32 K/BB ratio over 36.2 innings.
------------------
Charleston (Lost to Hagerstown, 1-0)

SS Tyler Wade:  2-for-4, 2B (17), 2 K
.280/.356/.344 in 393 AB in what has to be considered a successful campaign
SS Abiatal Avelino:  0-for-4, 2 K
.261/.318/.338 in 142 AB.   2-for-23 since coming back.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-2, BB, K
3B Miguel Andujar:  0-for-3
OF Michael O'Neill:  0-for-3, K
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-3, 2 K
OF Mark Payton:  0-for-4, 2 K
Rare no-hit night since signing.  Hitting .342.

LHP Chaz Hebert (L, 1-3):  7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
58.2 IP, 39 H, 19 R, 13 ER, 1 HR, 20 BB, 45 K between Charleston/Tampa
---------------------
Staten Island (Lost to Lowell, 11-4)

2B/3B Ty McFarland:  1-for-3, RBI, BB
I said the other day that only Torrens and Breen were worth much here; I think McFarland may just have a fighter's chance as well.
C Luis Torrens:  1-for-5, RBI
CF Devyn Bolasky:  0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, K
1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-3, RS, BB
SS Vincent Conde:  0-for-3, RS, BB, K
I don't have too much overall confidence in Conde, but if he can stick at SS, that definitely is a point in his favor.
OF Austin Aune:  0-for-3, 2 K
Officially on the Estee Harris Watch for 2014.   59 K in 37 games.
1B Connor Spencer:  1-for-4, 3 K
Supposedly has great bat control, but not much power

RHP Sean Carley (L, 0-2):  2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Getting crushed lately (11 runs in last three innings pitched)
RHP Dillon McNamara:  3.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
3.38 ERA; 29.1 IP, 28 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 18 K
27th round pick out of Adelphia in 2013.
