Yankees Minor League Report 7/28/14: Gary Sanchez Goes Yard; Aaron Judge Draws Four Walks

Scranton (Defeated Pawtucket, 6-4)

2B/RF Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-4, 2B (10), 2 RS
24-for-96 in July (.250) with 11 walks
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-4, RBI
12-for-36 (.333) in last ten games
2B Jose Pirela:  3-for-4, 2 RS
7-for-37 slide entering this game.
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-4, 4 K
According to my advanced minor league metrics, this does not qualify as a good night at the plate.
C/1B Austin Romine:  2-for-4, 2B (13), 2 RBI
.249/.308/.371 in 229 AB
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-3, 2B (14), RBI, RS, BB, K
UTIL Adonis Garcia:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, K
.313/.347/.473 in 294 AB
OF Taylor Dugas:  0-for-4, K

RHP Chris Leroux (W, 3-2): 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR
RHP Joel De La Cruz:  2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
4.32 ERA; 93.2 IP, 103 H, 57 R, 45 ER, 7 HR, 27 BB, 50 K, 2.33 GO/AO
RHP Matt Daley (S, 9):  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
3.31 ERA; 32.2 IP, 36 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 5 HR, 7 BB, 47 K
----------------------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated New Britain, 6-1)

C Gary Sanchez:  2-for-5, 2B (18), HR (11), 2 RBI, RS
He has been hitting very well in July, without much power.  That changed a bit tonight.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB
Eight walks in 11 games since joining level; 14-for-42
OF Ben Gamel:  2-for-5, 2B (27), RBI, 2 RS
.284/.324/.374 in 433 AB.
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  1-for-2, BB, K, HBP
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-4, 2 RBI, K
SS Ali Castillo: 3-for-4, SB (11), CS (4)

RHP Zach Nuding (W, 7-2):  6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
2.71 ERA; 83 IP, 70 H, 26 R, 25 ER, 21 BB, 67 K
His disaster in Scranton still hangs over his head (6.25 ERA in eight starts)
RHP Mark Montgomery:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
On the surface, he has a nice ERA, a good K rate (41 in 38 IP), etc.   But reports are that he is now reliant a lot on his slider thanks to a fading fastball.
LHP James Pazos:   1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
He kind of flies under the radar, but he has legitimate major league stuff.  I would move him to Scranton to pair with Ty Webb, while moving Lindgren here.
RHP Nick Rumbelow:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
2.21 ERA; 40.2 IP, 28 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 0 HR, 13 BB, 58 K between Charleston/Tampa/Trenton
---------------------------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Charlotte, 3-1)

OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-1, 4 BB
.289/.414/.438 since joining level with 27 walks in 36 games
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K
.278/.375/.440
3B Eric Jagielo:  1-for-2, BB, HBP
.249/.335/.463 in 201 AB.  As I have said before, the Yankees would be ecstatic if this was the type of slash he put up in the big leagues - but we are a long ways away from that.
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-3, 3B (2), RS, BB, 2 K
Giving up a hit to Culver is bad enough - a triple?
3B Dante Bichette:  0-for-4
.280/.361/.422 in 379 AB
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4
UTIL Claudio Custodio:  1-for-3, BB, 2 SB (21), CS (2)
A high steal rate is his only real claim to fame, offensively.  Hey, it got Justin Christian to the majors.

RHP Jhon Morban (L, 0-1):  4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
Tampa debut, though I assume this was some sort of emergency move.    Was 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA in 23 innings in the GCL this year with a 16/14 K/BB ratio.
----------------------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Asheville, 6-5)

CF Mark Payton:  2-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS
This little display of power is surprising.  He is 5'7" and reportedly has very little power.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-1, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
.232/.333/.352 in 298 AB.  .298/.383/.412 in 114 AB since ASB
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4, K
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-4
.279/.356/.341 in 384 AB
OF Michael O'Neill: 0-for-4, 2 K
.253/.325/.407 in 371 AB with 108 strikeouts

RHP Rookie Davis (W, 5-8):  5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
4.69 ERA; 96 IP, 103 H, 54 R, 50 ER, 4 HR, 35 BB, 75 K
Threw 52 innings in 2013.

Staten Island (Lost to Connecticut, 5-4)

1B Connor Spencer:  3-for-4, RBI, RS
.337/.372/.395 in 86 AB
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  0-for-4, RS, BB, K
.298/.354/.464 in 151 AB
SS Vincent Conde:  0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K, SB (4)
12-for-54
CF Devyn Bolasky:  1-for-5
.269/.292/.333 in 108 AB

1B/OF Chris Breen:  0-for-3, SF, RBI, K

RHP Jordan Foley:   3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
3.63 ERA; 17.1 IP, 16 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 19 K
LHP Rony Bautista (L, 1-1):  2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
