Yankees Minor League Report 7/15/14: "Promotion" is the Word of the Day

Not much action in the minors today, as Scranton, Trenton, and Tampa were all off and Charleston was rained out.

This was as good a day as any for the Yankees to make some promotion news...

As you may have heard already, Luis Severino has been, shall we say, aggressively promoted to Trenton.  Make no mistake about it, the 20-year old has been dominating.   But the Yankees are not typically in the business of promoting starters this young so aggressively.

CF Jake Cave has been promoted from Tampa to Trenton after hitting .304/.354/.395 in 90 games.   This is the first time Cave has jumped a level during the season, as he spent the entire 2013 season in Charleston (.282/.347/.401).   I have been bullish on Cave in the past - now it is time for his ultimate test.
Of course, Cave plays center - the same position the disappointing Mason Williams plays.  I haven't heard a thing yet on what the Yankees plan to do with Williams.

LHP Jacob Lindgren has, unsurprisingly, been promoted to Tampa from Charleston.  The second round pick in the 2014 draft will probably not last long in Tampa either.

In main roster news, Bryan Mitchell has been demoted back to Scranton after serving as an emergency pitcher on Sunday Night.

And finally, SS Abiatal Avelino is finally on a rehab stint in the GCL.   In his third game today, he went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  The 19-year old hit .294/.349/.387 in 119 AB with Charleston before going down with an injury.  He was 11-for-16 stealing bases.
