Yankees Minor League Report 7/29/14: Luis Severino Continues to Dazzle; Aaron Judge Continues to Walk; Eric Jagielo Goes Yard

Scranton (Lost to Gwinnett, 6-5)

UTIL Jose Pirela:  3-for-5, 3B (6), RBI, RS
Second consecutive 3-hit performance.
2B/RF Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, K, CS (4)
Back over .300 here (.301).  Played RF again today, with Pirela at 2B.
C John Ryan Murphy:  0-for-3, SF, RBI
.236/.277/.346 in 127 AB
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-4
.301/.392/.543 in 335 AB between Trenton/Scranton
C/1B Austin Romine:  1-for-3, RS, BB, SB (1)
UTIL Adonis Garcia:  1-for-4
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-4, 2 K
Hitting .161 with nine strikeouts in 31 AB since promotion
OF Antoan Richardson:  1-for-3, 2 RS, BB, SB (21)
His speed could earn him a September roster spot, if the 40-man isn't full.

LHP Nik Turley:  5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
6.03 ERA; 31.1 IP, 32 H, 22 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 22 BB, 25 K
His main goal is finishing the season on a healthy note.
Switch Pat Venditte:  2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Diego Moreno (L, 2-3):  1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Blew the game in the 9th.  It is no wonder, as he is Diego Moreno afterall.
----------------------------------------
Trenton (Defeated New Britain, 4-1)

CF Jake Cave:  2-for-5, RBI, 2 K
16-for-47 since joining level.
OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
20-for-49 since ASB
C Gary Sanchez:  1-for-3, BB, K
13-game hitting streak (19-for-55)
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-4, RBI, K
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-4, BB, 2 K
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-3, BB, K

RHP Luis Severino (W, 2-0):  5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
1.84 ERA since joining level with 20/4 K/BB ratio over 14.2 IP.  Overall, he has a 118/25 K/BB ratio over 103 IP.    His previous high in innings is 64.1 in 2012, so expect a slowdown.
RHP Nick Goody:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Goody now has 35 strikeouts in 19.2 IP this season.
RHP Nick Rumbelow (S, 1)1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Rumbelow now has 61 strikeouts in 41.2 IP this season
----------------------------------
Tampa (Lost to Charlotte, 5-4)

3B Dante Bichette:  2-for-4, 3B (1), RBI, BB
.282/.364/.428 in 383 AB.  His Post-ASB OPS (.793) is right in line with his first half (.791)
RF Aaron Judge:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB
The walks are piling up (68 in 102 games).  It isn't like he has a small strike zone.
3B Eric Jagielo:  1-for-4, HR (12), RBI, RS, BB, K
.249/.336/.473 in 205 AB
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-3, RS, 2 BB, 2 K
.275/.375/.435 in 262 AB.  12 walks in last ten games.
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-3, RS, BB
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-3, RS, BB, K

LHP Caleb Smith:  5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
3.02 ERA; 95.1 IP, 71 H, 38 R, 32 ER, 4 HR, 38 BB, 95 K
There have been bumps in his road, but can't complain much about his season overall.
---------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Asheville, 10-8)

SS Abiatal Avelino:  1-for-5, RS, K
2B/SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-5, RS, K
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-5, RS, 3 K
It does suck sometimes when I see a minor league affiliate have a big offensive night - only to see that the most promising players on the team didn't play a huge role in getting there.
OF Michael O'Neill:  2-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 RS
.255/.326/.407 in 376 AB with 43 RBI.  If only he was a teenager like the three mentioned above, this would be much more encouraging.
1B Reymond Nunez:  1-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K
CF Mark Payton:  2-for-4, RBI, BB
No doubt about it - doing an outstanding job here.   But his small stature and limited upside makes him a #4 or #5 OF prospect at best.
C Kale Sumner:  2-for-4, RS
.256/.430/.407 in 86 AB.  Has 25 walks.
OF Brandon Thomas:  2-for-4, 2B (8), RBI, K
15-for-37 stretch has raised his average to..... only .186.
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB
Since I featured the other eight men in the lineup, I couldn't leave him out!

RHP Andy Beresford:  5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
4.26 ERA; 25.1 IP, 29 H, 15 R, 12 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 12 K
In his brief (75 IP) minor league career, the GB (2.76 GO/AO ratio this year entering tonight's game) has been his calling card.
RHP Giovanny Gallegos:  2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Some talk last year of him being a sleeper.  A 4.27 ERA last year and a 5.43 ERA this year put to sleep a lot of that chatter.
RHP Eric Ruth:  1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HR
LHP Evan Rutckyj (L, 3-1):  0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
Nice strikeout rate (45 in 32.2 IP) is his only redeeming quality this year.  Has been a disappointment.

Staten Island (Lost to UConn, 65-61.   Oops...sorry.  Lost to Connecticut, 4-1)

C Luis Torrens:  0-for-3, BB
33-for-95
SS Jose Javier:  1-for-4, RBI
1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-4, 2 K
.250/.350/.424 in 132 AB.  20 years old.
RF Austin Aune:  0-for-4, 3 K
.225/.286/.359 with a mind-blowing 57 strikeouts in 142 AB
1B Connor Spencer:  0-for-4, 2 K
1B Bubba Jones:  2-for-3, BB, K
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-3, 3 K
Other than Torrens and Breen (to an extent), there hasn't been much to get excited about here...especially with Thairo Estrada on the DL

RHP David Palladino (L, 4-3):  4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
4.10 ERA; 41.2 IP, 40 H, 25 R, 19 ER, 2 HR, 19 BB, 44 K
LHP Jordan Montgomery:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Has thrown four scoreless innings in two appearances since joining level.  Don't sleep on Montgomery, who has legitimate major league potential as a starter.
RHP Joe Harvey:  2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
