Yankees Minor League Report 7/4/14: Robert Refsnyder Hits Walkoff HR; Greg Bird Hits Game Winner of His Own; Miguel Sulbaran Continues Hot Streak

Scranton (Defeated Buffalo, 7-6 on a 3-run HR by Robert Refsnyder)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-5, HR (4), 3 RBI, 2 RS
10th HR of the year, marking the first time he has reached double digits in a season.   A July 4th 3-run HR in the B-9th to win a game just shows you what kind of magic carpet ride he is on.
IF Scott Sizemore:  3-for-4, 2 2B (15), 2 RBI, RS
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-3, 2 2B (11), RBI, 2 RS, BB
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-4, 2B (7), RBI, 2 K
15-for-71 (.211)
UTIL Jose Pirela:  0-for-4, RS, K
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-4, 2 K
OF Adonis Garcia:  1-for-4, 3 K

RHP Joel De La Cruz:  4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HR, 2 WP, HBP
4.50 ERA; 54 IP, 63 H, 37 R, 27 ER, 5 HR, 16 BB, 28 K
Correct me if I am wrong, but this doesn't qualify as a good outing, right?
Switch Pat Venditte:  2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.58 ERA; 27.2 IP, 27 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 29 K since promotion
RHP Danny Burawa:  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
3.66 ERA; 32 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 2 HR, 18 BB, 45 K
This is how dominating Burawa can be at times - the walks just sometimes rear their ugly head and kill him.
RHP Jose Ramirez (W, 3-0):  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
Obviously not a great outing - but just wanted to note that I think Ramirez looked pretty good in his brief stay with NY.  Let us not forget that he was converted from a starter to a reliever this season, so a bit of an adjustment period is to be expected.

Tampa
(Defeated Lakeland, 1-0, in 11 innings)

1B Greg Bird:  2-for-5, HR (4), RBI, RS
.287/.379/.442 in 181 AB.  First HR since May, though he did hit 11 doubles in 26 June games.
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-3, 2 BB, 3 K
.283/.468/.609 in 14 games since promotion; .325/.435/.543 in 280 AB overall.
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-5, 3 K
.278/.365/.409 in 291 AB with 39 walks and 66 strikeouts
2B Angelo Gumbs:  1-for-4, K
.236/.284/.319 in 191 AB with 50 strikeouts
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4, BB, K
A dreadful 8-for-66 since the ASB with seven walks and 17 strikeouts.
CF Jake Cave:  0-for-5, K
Second consecutive 0-for-5 game.    Now at .305/.358/.390 in 341 AB.  Despite the two 0-for-5 games, he is still hitting .329/.388/.370 in 16 games since the ASB
OF Yeicok Calderon:  0-for-3, SAC, 2 K

LHP Miguel Sulbaran:  5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
2.63 ERA; 61.2 IP, 54 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 17 BB, 42 K
Last 6 starts:  33 IP, 21 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 8 BB, 26 K.   He is only 20 years old (and won't be 21 until just before the 2015 season).
RHP Jaron Long:  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
2.77 ERA; 26 IP, 18 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 3 BB, 26 K since promotion
Continues to exceed any expectations (which there really wasn't any)
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
8.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 8 K
RHP Nick Rumbelow:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

RHP Brett Gerritse (W, 3-3):  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
4.35 ERA; 49.2 IP, 58 H, 32 R, 24 ER, 5 HR, 16 BB, 28 K
-----------------
Charleston (Lost to Rome, 6-1)

3B Miguel Andujar:  2-for-4, 2B (12), RS
6-game hitting streak.  17-for-49 since ASB with four XBH and more walks (9) than strikeouts (7)
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-4
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-4, 2 K
17-for-52 since ASB, though that comes with 20 strikeouts, giving him 95 on the season.  Hey, that is still less than Ian Desmond!
SS Tyler Wade:  0-for-4, E (14)
7-for-41 slide in past ten games.  With Avelino's injury, Wade has been playing a lot of baseball at a demanding position.  It would make some sense if he is starting to tire a bit.
OF Michael O'Neill:  0-for-4, 2 K
UTIL John Murphy:  2-for-4
.278/.348/.317 in 180 AB; 14-for-17 SB.
He can play anywhere on the field, but the bat is not likely going to develop into anything major-league worthy.  Drafted as an older player last year, he is already 23 years old.   Regardless, this was his third consecutive 2-hit game.
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-4, RBI

LHP Omar Luis (L, 2-3):  4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
5.67 ERA; 33.1 IP, 33 H, 23 R, 21 ER, 4 HR, 25 BB, 21 K
His first start of the season.
RHP Giovanny Gallegos:  3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR
5.85 ERA; 52.1 IP, 66 H, 43 R, 34 ER, 5 HR, 13 BB, 53 K.
Disaster of a season for Gallegos...
-----------------
Staten Island (Lost to Hudson Valley, 4-1)

SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-2, RS
Hitting streak has reached ten games, but he was pulled in this game for unknown reasons.
C Luis Torrens:  1-for-4, 2 K
CF Devyn Bolasky:  1-for-4, K, SB (4)
The ability to play center, hit for some average because of his strong contact rate, and speed will keep him on the prospect radar.
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  0-for-3, BB
1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, 2 K
1B Connor Spencer:  1-for-4
OF Nathan Mikolas:  0-for-4, K

LHP Justin Kamplain:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
21-year old hasn't allowed a run yet in six innings with a 8/1 K/BB ratio.
RHP Dillon McNamara:  4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
1.76 ERA; 15.1 IP, 13 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 14 K
LHP Ethan Carnes: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
10.1 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 11 K
RHP Jose Pena (L, 1-1):  0.2 IP, 0 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
Loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth with two walks and a HBP....Matt Wotherspoon came in and allowed all three runs to score.
