Yankees Minor League Report 7/21/14: Rob Segedin Debuts in Scranton; Gary Sanchez Homers; Pete O'Brien Hits #30; Latest from Ian Clarkin; Luis Torrens Extends Streak to 17

Scranton (Defeated Gwinnett, 2-1)

C John Ryan Murphy:  2-for-3, K
Good to see the bat possibly coming back to life
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-3, SF, RBI, K
Triple-A debut for Segedin
2B/RF Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-4, 2B (7), RBI, K
It is a bit odd to me what they are doing with Refsnyder - started him in RF tonight.  Why not just use the rest of the season to let him play second base every day?
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, K
Started at 2B - moved to 1B late in the game after Roller was pulled for PR
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-4, K
1B Kyle Roller:  1-for-4, K
If Teixiera is out for any length of time, he may be given his chance.
OF Taylor Dugas:  1-for-3, RS, BB, SB (2)

RHP Bruce Billings:  7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR
RHP Edgmer Escalona (W, 2-2);  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Since joining Scranton, he has thrown 14 innings without allowing an earned run (one unearned run) with a 8/2 K/BB ratio

.267/.333/.418 in 311 AB
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  5-for-7, 2 2B (10), HR (20), RBI, 3 RS, K
30th HR of the season.  He was struggling badly entering this DH.  (1-for-20 with 9 Ks)
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, 2 K

.286/.329/.378 in 402 AB; 12-for-38 in last ten games

8-game hitting streak
OF Mason Williams:  3-for-7, 3B (2), RBI, RS, 2 K, SB (20)
If he would get on base more than once a week, those SB totals may go through the roof

C Francisco Arcia:  2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, K
C/1B Tyson Blaser:  3-for-3, 2 2B (4), 2 RBI, RS, BB
Simply highlighting a strong performance

-----------------------------------
Tampa (Defeated St. Lucie, 5-2)

Not much to see here - but he did have the big hit in this particular game.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4, RBI, K
At least he has spared us a 3-week or so hot streak that would make us think he may be turning the corner.
2B Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-3, RS, 2 K

LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
4.02 ERA; 15.2 IP, 15 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 8 BB, 16 K

15-for-43 since signing on the dotted line.  Don't get too used to the home runs - most definitely not a major part of his game.

.167/.273/.237 in 198 forgettable AB

3.36 ERA; 61.2 IP, 54 H, 26 R, 23 ER, 5 HR, 20 BB, 68 K
They could be easing Clarkin to the finish line.  Not sure what his IP limit is this season.

RHP Eric Ruth (S, 2):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Pitched in Charleston last year without much success (4.61 ERA in 80 IP).  23 years old.
RHP Tim Giel (S, 1):  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
