Yankees Minor League Report 7/6/14: Robert Refsnyder Homers (As Does a Good Portion of the Scranton Lineup); Latest from Manny Banuelos

Scranton (Lost to Charlotte, 13-9)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-4, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB, 3 K
23 strikeouts and 20 walks in 27 games here.  Third HR in last ten games.
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K
17 HR and 48 RBI in 74 games between Trenton/Scranton.
C Austin Romine:  3-for-5, 2 2B (11), HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, K
.225/.291/.371 in 178 AB.  Much needed game, as he has been scuffling as of late.
OF Adonis Garcia:  1-for-4, HR (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB
.307/.346/.461 in 228 AB
IF Yangveris Solarte:  3-for-5, 2B (2), 3B (1), RBI, RS, K
Give this to him:  He has smoked the ball in his two games since his demotion.  No sulking here, apparently.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-5, 2B (14), RS, K
One of many probably being considered for a callup...
IF Corban Joseph:  2-for-3, HR (3), RBI, 2 RS
.231/.290/.331 in 160 AB.  Entered the game for Sizemore, but I don't think that is an indication that Sizemore is on his way; or perhaps it is?

LHP Jeremy Bleich:   2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
9.18 ERA; 16.2 IP, 22 H, 18 R, 17 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 15 K since promotion.   I am looking for one of those stats that will tell me he has actually been good.....one has to exist, right?
RHP Jairo Heredia:  3.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Promoted again after another nice stretch in Trenton - promptly has another rough outing here.
RHP Danny Burawa:  0.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
4.18 ERA; 32.1 IP, 33 H, 19 R, 15 ER, 19 BB, 45 K
Coming off of a game where he struck out six in two innings.  Burawa has really taken a step back since starting off the season looking as if he was going to push for a major league slot this year.
RHP Jose Ramirez:  0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
1.46 ERA; 12.1 IP, 13 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 10 BB, 16 K
LHP Taylor Dugas:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K; also went 0-for-1 at the plate
Yes, Dugas is an OF.  With the promotions of Jim Miller and Bruce Billings AND with Shane Greene starting on Monday for the Yankees, Scranton was obviously short on pitchers tonight.  Dugas got the emergency work.
RHP Antoan Richardson:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K; 2-for-4, BB, SB (19)
Same as Dugas.

1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin:  2-for-5, RBI, RS, K
.253/.320/.359 in 245 AB
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-5, 2 RS, K, SB (9)
.284/.326/.382 in 359 AB; 9-for-13 SB.    In addition to his doubles power, he has shown some stolen base ability in the past as well.
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-6, SB (18)
.213/.289/.286 in 315 AB.  Entering today, the speedy Williams had a BABIP of .238.
UTIL Casey Stevenson:  2-for-5, 2 RBI, K
Simply highlighting a good game - Stevenson is a pure organizational guy.

LHP Manny Banuelos:  2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
4.50 ERA: 38 IP, 34 H, 21 R, 19 ER, 4 HR, 13 BB, 38 K
Second straight poor outing coming off of a DL stint due to a blister.
RHP Manny Barreda:  2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
2.91 ERA; 46.1 IP, 38 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 25 BB, 52 K

3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-3, BB
20-for-70 with 12 walks since ASB
OF Aaron Judge:  0-for-4, K
.264/.443/.547 in 16 games for Tampa
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-4, K
.274/.363/.421 in 190 AB.  Had an 18.5% BB% in 2013; in 2014, it has dropped to 12.8%
CF Jake Cave:  0-for-3, BB, K
.307/.360/.390 in 349 AB
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-3, BB, K, SB (9)
.217/.291/.288 in 313 AB.
2B Angelo Gumbs:  0-for-4, 3 K

2.35 ERA; 88 IP, 77 H, 37 R, 23 ER, 6 HR, 28 BB, 69 K
Would love to see him get an extended tryout in Trenton.  May not be until 2015.
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
9.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 8 K
-----------------
Charleston (Defeated Rome, 3-1)

CF Mark Payton:  1-for-3, RBI, RS, K
First professional hit for the 7th rounder out of Texas
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-4, RS, K
.262/.299/.488
You get three guesses on what part of his offensive game he needs to work on....
3B Miguel Andujar:  0-for-3, RS, BB, K
.237/.305/.368 in 291 AB.  Has walked 11 times in 17 games since ASB; had 16 in 63 games prior to ASB
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-3, RBI
.223/.315/.347 in 242 AB; .328/.361/.448 in 16 games since ASB
One of the things you look for when following minor leaguers is how they adjust to the level they are playing at. Both Andujar and Katoh were hitting terribly earlier in the season, but have started to turn it around a bit.  Since they are both teenagers, it gives you a sense of hope as they could make it Tampa as early as next year if they can keep it up.
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-3
.279/.380/.426
UTIL John Murphy:  0-for-3, BB
OF Michael O'Neill:  0-for-4, 2 K
Actually has a .270/.351/.421 line in 152 AB away from Charleston.

LHP Chaz Hebert:  6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
4.08 ERA; 39.2 IP, 41 H, 23 R, 18 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 31 K between Charleston/Tampa. Still searching for first win of season.
RHP Cale Coshow (W, 1-0):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
8.2 IP, 14 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 13 K.
Allowing the hits, but not the walks - I'll take that over the other way around.
RHP Philip Walby (S, 5):  1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
3.64 ERA; 29.2 IP, 19 H, 18 R, 12 ER, 23 BB, 45 K
I love Carlos Marmol type closers!

Staten Island (Lost to Hudson Valley, 7-6)

C Luis Torrens:  2-for-4, 2B (1), RS, K
He was pulled from this game late - let us hope it was for nothing serious.   Now 10-for-28 (.357).  I always like to say it: Remember, this kid is only 18 and actually played at Charleston earlier this season as a 17-year old.
CF Devyn Bolasky:  3-for-5, RBI, 2 RS, K, SB (5)
.306/.327/.388 in 49 AB.   Very small sample, but is pretty much playing as advertised - slasher with speed.
OF Austin Aune:  2-for-5, 2B (5), 2 RBI, 3 K
.211/.300/.310 in 71 AB with 30 strikeouts
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  1-for-4, 2B (8), RBI, RS, BB
.284/.329/.419 in 74 AB
1B Connor Spencer:  2-for-3, 2B (3), BB, K
1B Bubba Jones:  1-for-4, 2B (1), K
21-year old is repeating the level (.741 OPS here last year)
SS Jose Javier: 0-for-3, RS, BB, K, SB (5)
8-for-35.

RHP Jonathan Holder:  3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Staten Island debut for 21-year old out of Mississippi State.  He was a 6th round pick in this year's draft.  Threw in two GCL games before promotion.
RHP David Palladino (L, 2-2):  3.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
5.16 ERA; 22.2 IP, 24 H, 18 R, 13 ER, 1 HR, 13 BB, 24 K
When he is on (last two starts), he looks like a true power pitcher with a nice future.  When he is off, he can be all over the place.  Bottom line is that the Yankees have to harness the stuff he has.
LHP Rony Bautista:  2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
13 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 22 K
LHP Ethan Carnes:  0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
11 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 11 K
