Yankees Minor League Report 7/18/14: Dante Bichette's Streak Reaches 20; Rob Segedin Slugs Three Doubles; Brady Lail Debuts in Tampa

Scranton:

OF Zoilo Almonte:  2-for-4, 2B (13), 2 RS, BB, K
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-4, RBI, RS
2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-5, K
Seems like he has been back to playing mostly 2B again
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-5, K
Meanwhile, Pirela's time in RF has increased
OF Taylor Dugas: 0-for-4, K
UTIL Adonis Garcia:  1-for-4, RBI
Playing some 3B recently, which is likely out of necessity with no Wheeler or Solarte on the roster.

LHP Ty Webb:  1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR
Triple-A debut for the 2013 draftee.  (3.96 ERA in 50 IP with 71/16 K/BB ratio)
RHP Edgmer Escalona:  1.1 IP,1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
---------------------------
Trenton

3B Rob Segedin:  3-for-5, 3 2B (17), 3 RBI, 2 RS
.273/.381/.410. Has nine doubles in 15 July games.
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  3-for-4, 2B (11), 3 RBI, K
.256/.317/.367
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-3, 2 RS,2 BB, CS (1)
OF Mason Williams:  0-for-4
Looks like they want to take a nice, long look at Cave as Williams (who is considered a plus-plus-plus defensive CF) moved to RF tonight
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-4, 2B (25), RS, BB, 2 K
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, BB, 2 K

RHP Zach Nuding (W, 5-2):  6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
I agree with keeping pitchers in a minor league rotation for as long as possible (especially with all of the injuries the Yankees have suffered).  I would just be intrigued to see what Nuding can do in shorter relief stints.
RHP Mark Montgomery:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Diego Moreno (S, 5):  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
------------------------------------
Tampa

3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-2, 2B (24), RS, 2 BB, 1 K
.288/.374/.429 as his hitting streak reaches 20
1B Greg Bird:  2-for-4, 2B (19), RBI, RS, K
.270/.356/.417
While I pointed out some disappointment in his season, bottom line does remain that he is still young, coming off of a back injury that kept him out the first month, and is in a league that favors pitching.  We'll see if his numbers start tracking upward in the second half.
OF Aaron Judge:  1-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K
3B Eric Jagielo:  1-for-4
2B Angelo Gumbs: 1-for-4
SS Cito Culver:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K
.216/.286/.283

RHP Brady Lail:  5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
High-A debut
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
----------------------------------------
Charleston

1B Reymond Nunez:  2-for-4, 2 HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 K
One of those kids touted as a right-handed power prospect who simply has not been able to translate his raw power into game success.  (tonight is an exception to that rule!)
SS Tyler Wade:  2-for-4, RS
.267/.349/.328 in 344 AB
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-3, RS, BB
OF Mark Payton: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB
OF Michael O'Neill:  1-for-4, K
OF Dustin Fowler:  0-for-4, K

RHP Andy Beresford (W, 1-0);  5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
First start here since 4/30 (was pitching in Staten Island recently)
RHP Eric Ruth:  3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Philip Walby (S, 6):  1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
He has pretty good stuff, but obviously must harness it.
--------------------------------------------
Staten Island

2B/3B Ty McFarland: 2-for-5, 2 2B (13), RBI
13 doubles in 116 AB
SS Vincent Conde:  2-for-4, RS, BB, SB (2)
C/CF Collin Slaybaugh:  1-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (4)
OF Austin Aune:  0-for-4, BB
CF Devyn Bolasky:  0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
1B/OF Chris Breen:  1-for-4, BB, K

RHP David Palladino:  5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR
