Yankees Minor League Report 6/13/14: Mark Montgomery Demoted; Zoilo Almonte Homers; Latest from Manny Banuelos; Aaron Judge Goes Yard

First, some notes:

Gary Sanchez was once again out of the lineup on Friday night.   Initial reports seemed to indicate he may have been late to a game earlier this week.   They are either sending him a big message or the problem is much bigger than just being late for one game.   Definitely worth following.

The Yankees have signed veteran Heath Bell to soak up some innings in Scranton.  To make room, the Yankees have demoted Mark Montgomery back to Trenton.  Montgomery has regressed and may have already reached his plateau.  Not all relievers become David Robertson....

Staten Island was scheduled to get their season started tonight, but it was rained out.  For first-time readers of this report:  I do report on Staten Island nightly.  I do not typically report on the GCL squads once their seasons get started (next week).   I will give updates on interesting GCL players from time to time.
---------------------------------------------------------
Scranton (Lost to Columbus, 4-3)

OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-4, HR (10), 2 RBI, RS
.288/.331/.512 in 170 AB.  13-for-38 with four home runs since demotion, so it doesn't appear as if it affected him much.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  0-for-4, 2 K
HOF plaque is temporarily on hold.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-4, K, SB (9)
22-for-52 in June.
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, 2 K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  2-for-4, RS, K
IF Scott Sizemore:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K
59 strikeouts in 165 AB.  And some think he may deserve a longer look in the majors?   No.
C Austin Romine:  1-for-3, RBI, K
11-for-35 in last ten games.

RHP Alfredo Aceves: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
I understand the need for depth and all of that, but he is such a pain in the ass - is it worth it?
RHP Heath Bell:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
----------------------------------------------------------
Trenton (Suspended due to rain with Trenton up, 2-1, in the 8th.  I guess since Trenton scored that run in the top of the 8th, it is not an official game - so they have to complete it)

Full report upon completion tomorrow.  Just know that Manny Banuelos pitched three scoreless innings, allowing a hit while walking nobody and striking out three.
--------------------------------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Lexington, 8-2)

OF Aaron Judge:  3-for-5, HR (9), 4 RBI, 2 RS
Fourth straight multi-hit game, with an extra-base hit in each contest.    Now has 45 runs batted in in 64 games.
SS Tyler Wade:  2-for-4, 2 RS, BB, SB (8), E (10)
Hitting much better vs. RHP, and like most Charleston players, is hitting much better away from home.   As I have said a few times recently, he is holding his own very well for a teenager at this level.
OF Dustin Fowler:  2-for-4, 2B (4), 2 RBI
Another teenager who is hanging tough since being placed here in mid-May.   Three multi-hit games in his last five played.
OF Michael O'Neill: 1-for-4, 2 RS, BB, 2 K
.237/.311/.377 in 228 AB with 20 walks and 74 strikeouts.
3B Miguel Andujar: 1-for-4, RS, K
.216/.271/.341 in 232 AB with 16 walks and 45 strikeouts.
C Eduardo de Oleo:  1-for-4, RBI
UTIL John Murphy:  0-for-4
.265/.348/.301 in 136 AB
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-4, 3 K
.140/.260/.233 in 129 AB with 46 strikeouts.

RHP Rookie Davis (W, 3-6);  5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
5.08 ERA; 56.2 IP, 60 H, 36 R, 32 ER, 3 HR, 23 BB, 44 K
Has been getting knocked around a lot after a decent start to the season, so this was needed.
LHP Chaz Hebert (S, 1):  4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR
