Yankees Minor League Report 6/3/14: Mason Williams Continues to Show Signs of Life; Robert Refsnyder Homers; Latest From Manny Banuelos

Scranton (Lost to Norfolk, 7-6)

UTIL Russ Canzler:  1-for-4, 3B (2), 2 RBI, 3 K
Played LF tonight - has played first, third, left, and right.  So he offers corner flexibility, if nothing else.
2B Jose Pirela:  1-for-5, 3B (4), RBI, RS
When this guy is on fire, it is quite fun to follow him (obviously).  He is known for being streaky, and right now, the streak is a very good one.
OF Adonis Garcia:  1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB
1B Kyle Roller:  1-for-4, 2B (6), RS, K
C Austin Romine:  0-for-4, K
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  1-for-4, 2B (14), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K
IF Corban Joseph:  0-for-3, RS, BB
OF Antoan Richardson: 0-for-2, 2 BB, SB (16)
Walks and stolen bases - that is essentially Richardson's game.

RHP Zach Nuding:  6 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
6.19 ERA; 36.1 IP, 49 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 5 HR, 8 BB, 24 K since promotion.
Switch Pat Venditte:  2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
31,2 IP, 18 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 39 K
RHP Robert Coello (L, 1-1):  1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
1.29 ERA; 21 IP, 14 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 12 BB, 27 K
--------------------------------------------
Trenton
(Defeated Richmond, 8-3)

CF Mason Williams: 3-for-6, 4 RBI, RS, 2 K, SB (12)
Still only at .218/.310/.287, but is 12 for his last 41 (.293) with five walks and five stolen bases.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-5, HR (6), 2 RBI, RS, K
I don't even know what to say anymore.  If he isn't the hottest hitter in the minors right now, he is darn close.  He has now matched his 2013 HR total, in 259 less at-bats.
C Gary Sanchez:  1-for-4, 2B (12), BB
C/RF Pete O'Brien:  1-for-5, 2B (4), RS, K
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K, SF
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-4, RBI, BB

LHP Manny Banuelos: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Slow and steady.....up to 26.1 innings on the season in 11 games.
LHP Eric Wooten (W, 2-0);  6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Seems that he is enjoying this "piggy backing" off of Banuelos.   He has allowed three runs (two earned) in 13 IP with 8/4 K/BB ratio since being promoted.
LHP James Pazos:  0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Double-A debut for the 23-year old, who had a 3.96 ERA and 33/6 K/BB ratio over 25 IP for Tampa.   Pazos throws very hard, sitting in the 94-96 range (it bumped up even higher in the Arizona Fall League).   He also features a hard slider.  There is nothing that will ever be finesse about him.
LHP Fred Lewis:  0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
--------------------------
Tampa (Crushed by Ft. Myers, 8-0.  Only two hits for Tampa)

SS Cito Culver:  1-for-2, 2 BB, K
.234/.295/.304 in 214 AB.
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-4, K
7-for-38 slide with only two walks in that time period.
CF Jake Cave:  0-for-4, 2 K
.304/.353/.405 in 237 AB.  Six strikeouts in last two games.  .813 OPS vs. RHP; .607 vs LHP, to give him something to work on.
3B Dante Bichette:  0-for-3
7-for-33 slump in last ten games.
OF Zach Wilson: 1-for-3, K

LHP Chaz Hebert (L, 0-2):  3 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
4.05 ERA; 13.1 IP, 15 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
RHP Nick Goody:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.18 ERA; 11.1 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 18 K
Seems to be recovering quite well from Tommy John.
LHP Evan Rutckyj:  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
3.65 ERA; 12.1 IP, 13 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 15 BB, 12 K
See that white thing in front of you, Evan?  It is a plate.  Throw the ball over it, OK?
RHP Phil Wetherell:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
0.39 ERA; 23.1 IP, 18 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 21 K
---------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Hickory, 8-7)

SS Tyler Wade:  3-for-5, 3 RBI, RS
He has been struggling a bit as of late, so this is nice to see.
OF Aaron Judge:  1-for-3, 2B (11), RBI, 2 BB, K
Not only is he hitting for average and power, he is showing off some plate discipline with his 33 walks in 56 games.   One thing about hitters like Judge:  They typically rely on extending their big arms to generate their power.   Does Judge have the bat speed to handle pitchers who pound him inside?  Just something to watch for.
OF Michael O'Neill: 2-for-4, 2B (7), 3 RS, 2 SB (18)
Who knew that Paul's nephew had this much speed?   He was only 9-for-16 last season stealing bases.    The strikeouts are still high, but have come down a bit (66 in 189 AB)
UTIL John Murphy:  2-for-4, RS, 2 K, 2 SB (11)
Third consecutive two-hit game for the versatile Murphy, giving him a .287/.360/.328 line overall.   That said, even though he was just drafted last year, he is already 23 years old.
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-5, 2B (9), K
C Eduardo de Oleo:  2-for-5, 2B (2), HR (8), RBI, 2 RS
Seriously, where is this power coming from?  He is listed at 5'10", 180 - but perhaps has filled out a bit since that was last updated.   He had five career HR in 327 AB entering this season.  Could just be a random fluke, and his other numbers don't pop out at you - but when a kid has eight HR in 87 AB, you will take notice.
1B Mike Ford:  2-for-5, RBI, K
.303 in 188 AB with 28 runs batted in.

RHP Rookie Davis:  4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
5.55 ERA; 47 IP, 54 H, 33 R, 29 ER, 3 HR, 20 BB, 38 K
LHP Omar Luis:  1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, HR
14.2 IP, 18 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 3 HR, 12 BB, 9 K
Can you believe there was an online debate as to why the Yankees didn't protect him in the Rule 5 last year?
RHP Eric Ruth:  2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
With tonight's appearance, he has accomplished the cycle - he has pitched for Charleston, Tampa, Trenton, and Scranton, all in the same season.
