Yankees Minor League Report 6/30/14: Pete O'Brien, Miguel Andujar, and Gosuke Katoh Each Collect Two Hits on Slow Night

In the GCL today, the top squad (GCL-1) was postponed.   The GCL-2 squad was lead by SS Angel Aguilar, who connected on a 3-run HR in today's victory.  It was his third HR in 36 AB this season after hitting three in 229 AB in the DSL last year....Mike Noteware, a non-drafted FA out of Lewis-Clark St. College (Seriously, where do scouts find these guys?) earned his first professional victory by throwing two shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out three....
---------------------------------------------------------
Scranton (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 9-7)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-4, BB, K, CS (2)
6-game hitting streak.  15-for-29 in last ten games with 11 walks.    His stolen base rate has not been good at all this year, though:  He is 7-for-14 between Trenton/Scranton.
C John Ryan Murphy:  1-for-3, RS, BB, K
First walk of the season at this level for Murphy.  (Two in 24 games for the Yankees)
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
IF Scott Sizemore:  2-for-3, 2 3B (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB
OF Taylor Dugas:  2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RBI, RS
He has been able to keep his SLG above .400 for most of the season, which is quite the surprise.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  1-for-5, RBI
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  2-for-4, 2B (20), HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, K, HBP
27-year old has yet to make a major league appearance, so I am rooting for him in that regard - but despite his strong offensive season, I wouldn't expect him to do much if he ever was given a callup.

RHP Bruce Billings (L, 4-5);  6 IP, 12 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
RHP Danny Burawa:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR
3.90 ERA; 30 IP, 27 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 2 HR, 17 BB, 39 K
His dominating start is way back in the rear view mirror.   Has allowed 11 runs in 14.2 IP over his last 11 appearances.
RHP Matt Daley:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
2.86 ERA; 22 IP, 26 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 33 K
---------------------------
Trenton (Defeated Portland, 2-0)

C/1B Pete O'Brien:  2-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K
Nice to see a few hits on his ledger, as he has really been struggling lately.
C Gary Sanchez:  0-for-4, K
CF Mason Williams:  1-for-3, RS, BB, SB (17)
One of those players who can be exciting to watch when he is hitting - but will he ever hit enough in the majors to be a true difference maker?
1B/3B/OF Tyler Austin:  1-for-2, BB
The baby steps continue.  The question becomes:  Are they going to lead anywhere?
3B Rob Segedin:  0-for-3
OF Ben Gamel:  0-for-4, 2 K
.276/.319/.365 in 337 AB

LHP Eric Wooten (W, 3-3):  6.1 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
4.08 ERA; 39.2 IP, 40 H, 21 R, 18 ER, 3 HR, 11 BB, 21 K since promotion
RHP Taylor Garrison:  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
2.94 ERA; 33.2 IP, 24 H, 13 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 22 K
LHP Ty Webb (S, 6):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
28.2 IP, 31 H, 15 R, 15 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 41 K since promotion.  Allowing some runs, but also keeping up the big strikeout rates.
-----------------------------------------
Charleston (Lost to Kannapolis, 4-2)
3B Miguel Andujar:  2-for-3, RS, SAC, E (20)
11-for-32 in last ten games.  Average has risen to .228.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  2-for-4, RBI
14-for-39 since All-Star Game.  It looked like Katoh was a candidate to get sent down to Staten Island at one point, but he has definitely turned it on lately.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-5, RBI, 3 K
OF Dustin Fowler:  1-for-5, 2 K
UTIL John Murphy:  1-for-4, 2B (7), RS, K
1B Mike Ford:  1-for-4, 2B (12), K

LHP Chaz Hebert (L, 0-2):  4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

RHP Eric Ruth:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
3.73 ERA; 60.1 IP, 52 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 1 HR, 22 BB, 59 K
