Yankees Minor League Report 6/2/14: Aaron Judge Hits Third HR in Three Games

Scranton (Defeated Indianapolis, 7-3)

The box score was really screwed up for this game.  Nothing is horribly "inaccurate" below, I don't think, but at-bats may be missed.  (To show you how screwed up it is, the scoreboard says the game is 10-9 in the 10th inning - which is not true)

2B Jose Pirela:  2-for-4, 2 RBI
Up to .320.  17 hits in last 46 AB, and 43 hits in last 114 AB.  In other words, Pirela has been pretty much unstoppable for an extended period of time.
1B Kyle Roller:  3-for-5, RBI, RS
IF Corban Joseph:  2-for-3, 2 RBI, RS
OF Adonis Garcia:  1-for-3, RS, BB
7-game hitting streak.
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  1-for-5, 2B (13), RS, K
UTIL Russ Canzler:  1-for-2, RBI, RS, BB, K
Played RF tonight.  Has also played first and third.
SS Carmen Angelini:  2-for-3, 2B (4), RBI, RS, K

I have to piece together the pitching.  It appears Brian Gordon went five innings, giving up two runs on five hits with no walks and a strikeout.  Francisco Rondon (called up from Trenton) tossed two scoreless innings, walking one while striking out two (according to the radio broadcast, which I am listening to).    Robert Coello closed out the win with a scoreless ninth, allowing a hit while striking out one.

Tampa (Defeated Ft. Myers, 8-2)

1B Greg Bird:  2-for-5, 2B (6)
.256/.343/.422 in 90 AB
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-4, 2B (14), RS, BB, K, E (6)
.281/.371/.459 in 196 AB.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-6, 4 K
.309/.359/.412 with 16 walks and 47 strikeouts in 55 games.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-3, RBI, RS, SF, BB, 2 K
.231/.288/.302 in 212 AB.
1B Matt Snyder:  2-for-5, RBI, RS, K
OF Zach Wilson:  1-for-5, RBI, 2 RS, 2 K
OF Cody Grice:  2-for-4, 3B (1), 3 RBI, RS, BB
Raised his average to .148 (8-for-54).  Grice has pretty much never hit since being drafted in 2011, and is an organizational player.

LHP Conner Kendrick (W, 2-2):  6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
2.45 ERA; 25.2 IP, 29 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 19 K
9th rounder out of Auburn last year may have a shot down the road as a relief pitcher.
RHP Brett Gerritse:   2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
4.22 ERA; 42.2 IP, 49 H, 28 R, 20 ER, 5 HR, 13 BB, 21 K, 2.19 GO/AO

Charleston (Lost to Hickory, 9-6)

OF Aaron Judge:  2-for-3, HR (8), 2 RBI, RS, BB, K
Three straight games with a home run.    We will see what he does as he moves up the chain, but the kid has a lot of potential with the bat.
C Eduardo de Oleo:  2-for-4, 2 HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 RS, 2 K
7 HR in 82 AB.  Hard to find much on the 21-year old signed back in 2010, probably for good reason.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, 2 K
He has flashed a bit of extra-base hit power recently, (His last five hits have all gone for extra bases)  The problem?  Those five hits have come in 30 AB with 12 strikeouts.
SS Tyler Wade:  0-for-3, BB, 2 K, E (7)
.265/.333/.332 in 196 AB
OF Dustin Fowler:  0-for-4, 3 K
11-for-56 with 20 strikeouts.   Likely heading to Staten Island once the short-season leagues begin.
3B Miguel Andujar:  0-for-4, 3 K
OF Michael O'Neill: 1-for-5, 2B (6), RS, K
UTIL John Murphy:  2-for-4, RS

RHP Brady Lail (L, 7-2):  5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HR
3.53 ERA; 58.2 IP, 65 H, 27 R, 23 ER, 3 HR, 11 BB, 60 K
First time giving up more than two runs in a game since 4/17.
RHP Angel Rincon: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
12.1 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 8 K
RHP Philip Walby:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
4.19 ERA; 19.1 IP, 7 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 15 BB, 32 K
