Yankees Minor League Report 6/19/14: Aaron Judge Debuts in Tampa; Dan Camarena Ks 10; Michael O'Neill Hits Two Home Runs; Dustin Fowler: 3 Doubles

Scranton (Lost to Toledo, 7-4)

2B Robert Refsnyder:  2-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
8-for-34 since joining level; second consecutive two-walk game.  Overall, he is hitting .328/.378/.519 in 262 AB with 18 walks and 46 strikeouts.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  2-for-5, 2B (12), RS
.324/.363/.447 in 262 AB.   I list him as utility, but he has essentially be playing nothing but left field recently.
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-5, RBI, RS
.284/.329/.485 in 194 AB
1B Kyle Roller:  2-for-4
.298/.388/.511 in 131 AB since promotion.
IF Scott Sizemore:  1-for-4, 2B (10), RBI, K
.270/.335/.405 in 185 AB.   Has an .881 OPS (in 57 AB) vs. LHP
C Austin Romine:  0-for-4
.223/.294/.351 in 148 AB.  Was hitting well recently, but is 1-for-16 in last four games.
IF Russ Canzler:  0-for-2, BB
IF Corban Joseph:  1-for-1, RBI
Pinch-hit for Canzler.

RHP Alfredo Aceves:  3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Switch Pat Venditte:  2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
4.58 ERA; 17.2 IP, 21 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 17 K since promotion.   There has always been a curiosity about Venditte, but we need to be honest:  He is making his living as an organizational pitcher.
LHP Francisco Rondon:  0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
8.1 scoreless innings since joining level with 7/4 K/BB ratio.
RHP Danny Burawa:  1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
3.24 ERA; 25 IP, 20 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 32 K
Walks have always been an issue.    He walked 42 in 66 IP last season.
---------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Lakeland, 3-2, thanks to a 2-run bottom of the 9th)

OF Aaron Judge:  2-for-4, K
Now the real test begins.
1B Greg Bird:  3-for-5, 2B (13), RBI, RS, K
The doubles are piling up, so hopefully the home runs are soon to follow.   (Last year, he did have 36 doubles in addition to his 20 home runs)
OF Yeicok Calderon:  3-for-3, 2 2B (7), HR (1), RBI, RS
The 6'2" left-handed bat isn't dead as a prospect just yet, but progress is needed.   He missed a big portion of the season, so this was only his 14th game.
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-3, RS, 2 BB, K, PO
It seems that hitting for average won't be much of an issue.   A few things you wonder about:  Is there more home run power in his future?  Will he begin to walk at least a little bit more? (23 in 68 games this season)    At 21 years of age, he has definitely impressed.
SS Cito Culver:  2-for-5, K
3B Dante Bichette:  1-for-5, RBI
.270/.356/.418 in 244 AB.

LHP Dan Camarena:  6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, HR, 1 BB, 10 K
2.72 ERA; 76 IP, 67 H, 35 R, 23 ER, 6 HR, 25 BB, 63 K
The Yankees have taken a "one level at a time" approach with the 21-year old.   Tonight's game aside, he really is not a power guy - but a legitimate prospect due to his command of three quality pitches.
RHP Jarod Long (W, 1-2):  3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
2.02 ERA; 62.1 IP, 51 H, 20 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 58 K between Charleston/Tampa
-----------------------------------
Charleston (Defeated Kannapolis, 10-7.   Their team nickname is the "Intimidators".   At 29-38 and giving up a zillion runs tonight, who the hell are they intimidating?)

OF Michael O'Neill:  2-for-5, 2 HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 RS
Had five home runs in April, and none in May.   K rate continues to fall, but is still unsightly (76 in 65 games.   Through April, he had 36 in 24 games)
OF Dustin Fowler:  3-for-5, 3 2B (7), 2 RBI
Fourth consecutive multi-hit game, and is now 17-for-53 in June with nine extra base hits.  Excellent adjustment after a 10-for-48 May (his season didn't debut until mid-May).  Anyway, just keep it up, kid.
SS Tyler Wade:  1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, BB, 2 K, 2 SB (10)
Hitting streak is up to eight.    For now, he is pretty much a singles hitter without much power - but at 6'1", there could be time to grow into a little bit of extra-base power (remember, he is still a teen).   He is now hitting .270.
3B Miguel Andujar:  1-for-4, 3 RS, BB, K, SB (1)
Only his sixth career SB in 148 games, so that is not a part of his game at all.   Has pretty much struggled the entire season, especially since April.
2B Gosuke Katoh:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K, SB (13)
Hitting better as of late (10-for-36 in last ten games).   Has raised his average to .191, which shows you where he was.
1B Reymond Nunez:  2-for-5, 2B (5), RBI, RS, K
C Eduardo de Oleo:  1-for-2, RBI, 2 BB, SF
OF Brandon Thomas:  0-for-3, 2 HBP
Down to .144 in 139 AB.  His OPS has surged in June, however.  From .431 in May to .493 in June before tonight!

RHP Rookie Davis: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
5.19 ERA; 60.2 IP, 67 H, 39 R, 35 ER, 24 BB, 50 K
Other than a five shutout inning performance his last time out, he has struggled for an extended period.
LHP Omar Luis:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
6.29 ERA; 24.1 IP, 25 H, 19 R, 17 ER, 3 HR, 19 BB, 16 K
RHP Giovanny Gallegos: 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
5.77 ERA; 43.2 IP, 54 H, 34 R, 28 ER, 4 HR, 10 BB, 42 K
He actually had a 4.26 ERA in 25.1 innings as a starter.  Getting torched in the bullpen.
LHP Evan Rutckyj:  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
8.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 14 K since demotion.   Had 15 walks in 12.1 innings for Tampa.
--------------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Aberdeen, 5-4)

1B Bubba Jones:  2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 K
First HR for Staten Island this season (7 games).
C/OF Collin Slaybaugh:  2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RS, BB, SB (2)
SS Thairo Estrada:  1-for-4, RS, SB (2)
First hit of the season (1-for-21).   I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles for a bit, given his age.  Like with many prospects, you just want to see improvement as the season goes along.
2B Ty McFarland:  1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, BB, 2 K
OF Nathan Mikolas:  2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
Parents with a sense of humor would have named him Nicholas.
OF Austin Aune:  0-for-5, K
2-for-22.  Haven't we seen this before?
1B Chris Breen: 1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, BB, K
20-year old is off to a strong start.

RHP David Palladino:  4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HR
7.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 7 K in two starts.  Obviously, this one was better than his first one.
RHP Matt Wotherspoon:  1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Professional debut for the 34th round pick out of Pittsburgh.    Struck out 8.4/9 in 91.1 innings for the Panthers.
RHP Jose Pena (S, 1):  1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
23-year old has been around since 2009, mostly in the DSL.    5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K in two games
