Yankees Minor League Report 6/17/14: Matt Tracy & Miguel Sulbaran Toss 6 Strong Innings; Jose Pirela Continues His Hitting Ways

In the Sally League All-Star Game tonight, Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI in what will be his last Sally League appearance.  He will be heading to Tampa now.  Brady Lail tossed a scoreless inning of relief in a game that ended in a 4-4 tie.
-------------------------------
Scranton (Defeated Toledo, 8-7)

C Austin Romine:  1-for-4, HR (4), 3 RBI, RS
I will assume that Romine will get some 1B/DH time in addition to being Murphy's backup.
UTIL Jose Pirela:  2-for-5, 2B (11), RBI, RS, K
He is typically streaky...but this is beyond a streak.  After a .346/.400/.462 May, he is 27-for-66 in June.
2B Robert Refsnyder:  1-for-5, RS
6-for-28
IF Scott Sizemore:  2-for-4, 3B (3), 2 RBI, BB, K
OF Zoilo Almonte:  1-for-3, 2 BB
Actually started the night in center field.  He is typically a corner OF (especially RF)
1B Kyle Roller:  0-for-3, 2 RS, BB, K, HBP
Whether one thinks of him as a prospect or not, one cannot deny his strong season.
UTIL Zelous Wheeler:  1-for-5, RS, 2 K
SS Carmen Angelini:  2-for-4, 2B (8), RS, E (5)
He has done a respectable job here (.263 in 99 AB), but still - nothing to get excited about.

LHP Jeremy Bleich:  4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
10 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 5 BB, 9 K since promotion.
RHP Robert Coello:  2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
2.05 ERA; 26.1 IP, 20 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 33 K
-----------------------
Trenton (Lost to Bowie, 5-2)

CF Mason Williams:  0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, SB (15)
Now has 30 walks in 62 games as he continues to bounce back from a bad start.   There was a lot of damage done, so the numbers will not look pretty unless he can have a sustained hot streak.
C Gary Sanchez: 1-for-4, 2B (13)
C/1B Pete O'Brien:  0-for-4, 2 K
6-for-38 in last ten games (.158).  12-for-57 with 17 K in June.
3B Rob Segedin: 1-for-4, RBI, K
OF Ben Gamel:  1-for-4
1B/3B/RF Tyler Austin:  1-for-4, RS, K
OF Taylor Dugas:  1-for-4, K, CS (1)
UTIL Ali Castillo: 2-for-2, 2B (8), RBI, BB

LHP Matt Tracy:  6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
80.1 IP, 87 H, 35 R, 32 ER, 4 HR, 30 BB, 40 K in 14 games (13 starts) between Trenton/Scranton.
Tracy is an intriguing prospect, who has five pitches in his arsenal (two-seamer, four-seamer, cutter, change, curve).   He is already 25 years old, so we aren't talking a young kid with an ace-like future.   More like potential 4th-5th starter type, which are valuable in their own right.  Missed some time last year with a hip/back issue that did not require surgery.
LHP Ty Webb (L, 1-4):  1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
4.50 ERA since joining level with 35/10 K/BB ratio over 22 IP.    First HR allowed this year in 35 IP between Tampa/Trenton.
RHP Manny Barreda:  0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
--------------------------------
Tampa (Defeated Daytona, 1-0)

3B Dante Bichette:  2-for-4, 2B (15), RBI, K
CF Jake Cave:  1-for-4, RS, 2 K
.297/.351/.391 in 276 AB.  Strikeouts are a bit high (59) and he is only 13-for-56 in June.
1B Greg Bird:  0-for-4, 2 K
.238/.340/.392 in 130 AB with 21 walks and 36 strikeouts.
SS Cito Culver:  0-for-4
.234/.302/.319 in 248 AB.  2-for-17 slide.
OF Yeicok Calderon: 1-for-4, K

LHP Miguel Sulbaran (W, 1-1):  6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
3.50 ERA; 44.2 IP, 50 H, 20 R, 17 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 28 K
Last three starts:  15 IP, 16 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 11 K
RHP Nick Goody:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
2.35 ERA; 15.1 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 27 K
He is a bit of an Adam Warren type reliever, as he has a four pitch arsenal he uses to get hitters out.
LHP Ramon Benjamin:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Former Marlins prospect missed both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, seemingly due to a shoulder injury.    He is already 27 years old, and the Yankees are just taking a flyer here.
RHP Nick Rumbelow (S, 1):  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
24 IP, 15 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 8 BB, 35 K between Charleston/Tampa.    Goody is probably a better prospect, but not by much - Rumbelow can deal.
----------------------------
Staten Island (Defeated Aberdeen, 4-3, thanks to a 2-run bottom of the 9th)

OF Nathan Mikolas:  1-for-3, 2 RBI, K
Had the game-winning two-run single to send the crowd home happy.   3rd round pick in 2012 hit .256/.355/.405 in 195 GCL AB last season.
1B Chris Breen:  2-for-4, 3B (1), K
6-for-14 start.
2B/3B Ty McFarland:  1-for-4, RS
SS Thairo Estrada:  0-for-3, RS, SAC
Looking for first hit of season (0-for-14)
RF Austin Aune:  1-for-4, RBI, K, SB (1)
OF Devyn Bolasky:  0-for-4
Smallish (5'11") outfielder was selected in the 31st round of this year's draft.   Pure contact guy who doesn't walk much, doesn't strike out much, has little power, but plenty of speed.

RHP Dillon McNamara:  3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Another big pitcher (6'5") selected in last year's draft.  Compiled a 2.19 ERA in 37 innings at this level last year with a 31/17 K/BB ratio.
LHP Rony Bautista:  3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Pitched to a 4.76 ERA in Charleston this season with a 10/11 K/BB ratio in 11.1 innings.  One of the biggest lottery tickets in the entire organization (literally, at 6'7")
RHP Travis Hissong:  1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Non-drafted free agent out of Wright State.    Has a Tommy John surgery and a torn hamstring injury on his resume.
